What is it?

This is a kit to setup a key holder with a Raspberry Pi 3 A+ that acts as a file backup server. Its also a handy reminder to think about your backups every time you get or hang up your keys! Powered by Raspberry pi and open source software.

How does it work?

At night, when you hang up your keys, plug in your USB drive. The LCD display will turn on and display Ready when the device is ready for backups to be run.

Computers or phones that have been setup to back up files to it can then run their backups overnight, at around 8 MBytes a second over wifi.

In the morning, when you go to get your keys, press either button to wake up the device. The LCD screen will then show it is Safe to remove the USB drive. Unplug the USB drive and take your keys with your freshly backed up files!

Whats in the kit?

1x 1.8" OLED LCD, for showing status messages and information.
1x PCB with buttons, to connect the raspberry pi to the LCD and read button presses.
8x m2.6x4mm screws, to attach the LCD, PCB and raspberry pi to the case.
3x screw hooks, for holding keys.
2x wall screws.
2x drywall anchors.
2x m4 x 5mm screws.
1x USB extension cable, to make it easier to connect the USB drive.
1x 3d printed black PETG case with attached buttons, and a wall bracket.
Raspberry Pi 3 A+.
32 GB Micro SD card.
Official Raspberry Pi power adapter.

Additional items needed to complete the kit (NOT included)

A Fat32 formatted (or if you use linux, ext3 or ext4 formatted) USB drive(s) for backing up your files.
