This module houses a Z80 CPU, 128k bytes of RAM, 32k bytes of ROM, an oscillator and a reset chip (DS1233).

By combining these functions on a single circuit board you can save several module slots, whilst maintaining compatibility with standard RC2014 software, such as CP/M.

The ROM is supplied programmed with the Small Computer Monitor configuration S3, which also ROM BASIC and a CP/M loader. Alternatively, you can use other RC2014 compatible ROM based software, but there are no jumpers to select which image is run, so it can only run the one at the start of the ROM.

This module is not as flexible as the official RC2014 Pro modules (Z80 CPU, 64k RAM, and Paged ROM) but it takes fewer backplane slots, has no configuration hassle and is potentially more reliable as it is all on one PCB.

To run standard RC2014 CP/M you can, for example, use this module, plus an SIO module (official or compatible third party), a Compact Flash interface module (official or compatible third party) and a Compact Flash card. The Compact Flash card needs a suitable version of CP/M installed. The required software to do this can be found by following the documentation link below.

A very neat two module CP/M setup can be made from SC108, plus Rotten Snow's "The Missing Module". These two modules could be mounted on SC116 3-slot backplane.

Compatibility

This module conforms to the RCBus specification v1.0 for RCBus-2014 enhanced 39-pin long modules.

The printed circuit board outline conforms to the RC2014 standard for full height modules.

The module is compatible with all RC2014 backplanes, all RCBus-2014 backplanes (RC2014 compatible including SC100 series) and all full RCBus 80-pin backplanes (including SC700 series).

When used with a 40-pin backplane the pins in the second row are not connected. As a result the enhanced bus signals /RFSH, /BUSAK, /HALT, /BUSRQ, /WAIT and /NMI are not available. Most applications do not need these signals.

The RCBus specification includes RCBus-2014 (both RC2014 standard 40-pin bus and RC2014 enhanced 60-pin bus) and also the full 80-pin RCBus. The 80-pin RCBus provides support for advanced Z80 features, such as the interrupt daisy-chain, as well as support for other processor families.

The kit

This kit includes all the components needed to make the module, as shown in the first picture. Other modules and backplanes shown in the pictures are not included. You will require tools, solder, and cleaning materials to assemble this kit.
