The kit comprises of three modules:
A USB to serial adapter with cables is included in the kit.
There are parts included to build the SC112 backplane, which has 6 vertical module slots, plus 1 horizontal slot for expansion or for a seventh module. The kit also includes the smaller SC116 3-slot backplane PCB. This can be build instead of the larger SC112 backplane as it only uses a subset of the parts supplied for SC112.
The SC119 memory module supports two Flash ROM chips. One is supplied programmed with the free Small Computer Monitor software, and the other with the free RomWBW software. RomWBW incorporates CP/M and can run in a modest way without a mass storage device. A range of mass storage modules are available to enhance this system, such as the RC2014 Compact Flash module.
The kit contains everything you need to build the kit, except solder, tools and cleaning materials.
The documentation can be found at www.scc.me.uk or by following the link below.
This computer conforms to the RCBus specification v1.0, except it was produced before the specification was written and therefore some signals that might be expected, such as INT1 and INT2, are not connected to the bus.
The module printed circuit board outlines conform to the RC2014 standard for full height modules.
The RCBus specification includes RCBus-2014 (both RC2014 standard 40-pin bus and RC2014 enhanced 60-pin bus) and also the full 80-pin RCBus. The 80-pin RCBus provides support for advanced Z80 features, such as the interrupt daisy-chain, as well as support for other processor families.
This kit includes all the components needed to make the computer, as shown in the first picture. Other modules and backplanes shown in the pictures are not included. You will require tools, solder, and cleaning materials to assemble this kit.
The Z180 CPU (Z8S180xx) is no longer in production and finding stock is becoming increasingly difficult. The CPU supplied in this kit is either the 20MHz or 33MHz version, and is either old or used stock. I test all of them before packing in kits. Some of the CPUs have superficial scratches. All other integrated circuits are brand new and from major retailers in the UK or USA.
The assembled kit is approximately 10cm (4") x 10cm (4") x 6cm (2.5"). It is supplied in a box approximately 23cm (9") x 16cm (6.5") x 2.5cm (1") weighing about 300g (0.7lbs).
