Overview

This module retrofits function from later models of VW group cars (around 2000) which have the capability to indicate on the cluster display exact opened door of the car. The module only works with cars with full cluster display. The module constantly monitors and indicate which door is opened and draw the image of a car with the exact door opened. When all doors are closed, module redraws car with closed doors and after second return cluster to the previous state. This module use navigation protocol which makes it compatible with most VW group cars of that era. But I cannot guarantee it works with any other model then Audi a4 b5, which I have and I personally using this module in my car.

Instalation

The first step is to enable navigation mode in the cluster. For VAG cars info can be found here.

The module is connected to the 3-wire communication bus between the radio and the cluster. Here it reads data sent from radio and sends them to the cluster in navigation protocol. The module is also connected to 5 wires which are connected from the central locking unit to door switches. These switches pulling to the ground when doors are opened. Originally these contacts are wired in parallel so for this module be able to distinguish which doors are opened, we need to cut these wires and add Schottky diode to wiring between the control unit and switch so opening one door will not pull wires from other door switches to ground.

Then module need only to be connected to the ground and to 12V switched with the ignition key.
