What is it?

A festively themed fireplace PCB ornament/badge to light up your holidays! There are 12 charlieplexed LEDs reverse mounted to shine through the board which cycle through 6 different animations controlled by an ATtiny25.

Why did you make it?

I was inspired by seeing lots of lovely Xmas-themed-PCBs and an idea popped into my head - I had to run with it. This really stretched my 'PCB art' skills and is definitely my most complex design to date. It was originally intended to be a stocking filler for friends and family but I received a lot of interest so here we are!

What makes it special?

I think the red soldermask, exposed silver and FR4 really lend themselves to the design. The 12 Charlieplexed LEDs shining through the board make the fireplace feel very cosy!

The animations will automatically cycle through when the ornament is turned on but you can also select the animations using the built-in button. There is a switch for turning the power on and off.

It can be fully modified/hacked using the AVR ISP pins. The ornament is pre-loaded with 6 animations, the code for which can be found here.

What's left to say?

Size is approximately 10cm x 9cm (3.9inch x 3.5inch).

While a 3V coin cell battery is sufficient to power this ornament, as an option it may also be powered from a LiPo battery (3.7V) or via the programming header (up to 5V).

There's space on the back to write a message to the recipient(s).

Batteries not included. This will not be sent with batteries, just buy 2032 batteries or use rechargeables, both voltages (3V and 3.6V) are fine.
