Note: this board has been designed for a specific Astec model power supply # AA15830 (red ASTEC logo), so please check the model you have and ideally open up the top part of the enclosure to confirm you have a match. If you have model AA15831, check out this listing: ASTEC AA15831
With the addition of your chosen Pico ATX PSU, this board is a drop-in replacement for the original top-side board inside the original enclosure. The machine does not need to be extensively modded for this replacement, and thus retains the original functionality and look of the original power supply.
The design is similar to the linked video demonstrates which was tested with an RGEEK 150W Pico ATX supply and was able to run a Mac IIci outfitted with: a DayStar Turbo 601 (PPC accelerator); 33M Hz 68040 Radius Rocket with 128 MB of RAM; Radius Precision Color 24XP video card; and base 32 MB RAM. The Rocket was run in RocketShare mode and was run at the same time as the Turbo 601 was set to the active CPU. The IIci in this configuration draws approximately 62 W (69 W peak). The machine was run for at least an hour. The above configuration was chosen to assess the capability of the overall design. For a demanding configuration like the one described, you may want to choose the Pacific Kahuna, to provide more headroom for power.
The specific Pico ATX PSU used for testing and in the product demo video is the RGEEK 12 V 160 W power supply, chosen for its price-to-performance ratio. As a rule of thumb, it's a good idea to divide the stated output of these 100W+ power supplies by two to allow for a larger margin of safety. Since the onboard Mean Well 12VDC AC-DC converter provides 80W max, the 160W Pico ATX PSU aligns with the AC-DC converter power spec (160/2 = 80).
