What is it?

This is a board which replaces the two 2114 video RAM chips in most PET models other than the early PET 2001 with 6550 chips.

Why did you make it?

The RAM chips are a common point of failure in most PETs, so this will replace them with a modern static RAM chip.

It can be difficult to find replacement 2114 chips as the PETs are very picky about timing and many NOS chips are unsuitable.

Most PETs have a pair of 2114 RAM chips in the middle of the board. This cannot be used to replace 6550 RAM chips found in early model PET 2001s. 80 column PET 8032 boards have four 2114 chips, so would need two of these modules.

This listing include the 2114 replacement board only (the red boards). It does not include the PET board, RAM chips or any of the other things shown such as the Charter ROM replacement, PET ROM/RAM, PET Video, PET Dual Joystick with Piezo and SD2PET (all of which are available separately)

This may suit other system with a pair or pairs of 2114 chips. They need to be wired in parallel other than the data pins. The spacing is 400 mil (0.4") between chips, see the photos for one on some 100mil (0.1") padboard so you can see the spacing. It will not fit a ZX80, ZX81, TS1000, or any model of VIC20.
