The Western Design Center, Inc. (WDC) is the original 65xx technology provider.

The W65C134SXB and its lower cost sibling, the W65C134SXBB, are 8–bit Single Board Computers (SBCs) built around the W65C134S System-On-a-Chip (SOC) microcomputer.

This SOC features a general purpose system monitor for interfacing with legacy computer terminals and emulated computer terminals that are found on most if not all smartphones, PCs, and tablets. Most operating systems have available or built-in computer terminal emulators. A synchronizing monitor is used in state-of-the-art software engineering.

The W65C134SXB is an excellent introduction to the computer industry evolution from the earliest computers like the ENIAC, IBM360, PCs, and state-of-the-art smartphones and tablets. With the evolving Internet-of-Things (IoT) new market concepts and products, having a foundational understanding of Assembly and C languages is a must for aspiring software engineers.

An addition interesting feature of the W65C134S is a unique token ring local area network (LAN) Serial Interface Bus (SIB) for learning and experimentation with up to eight (8) W65C134S SoCs connected in a ring. The SIB was originally designed for a medical electronics company for a wired LAN within the human body for connecting up eight microcontrollers for human life support.
