Why did you make it?

As Quansheng K5/K6 radios gained popularity in the DIY and HAM radio communities—especially after the release of the CEC custom firmware—many users discovered that the radios lacked a physical CW keying interface. CEC firmware provides the software support for CW keying, but users still need a reliable, plug-and-play paddle key to make use of it.

This project was born out of that gap. We created this compact, efficient, and ergonomic CW paddle key to fill the need for a hardware solution that matches the flexibility and hackability of CEC-enabled Quansheng radios. The goal was to make a CW key that was not just compatible—but actually designed from the ground up for these radios, with proper signal mapping, plug-in compatibility, and a comfortable feel for long sessions of CW operation.

Q1: Does this work with stock firmware? A1: No. This CW paddle key only works with CEC custom firmware installed on your Quansheng K5/K6. The stock firmware does not support paddle key input.

Connection Steps:

Enable CW key input in the firmware menu. Go to Menu > CW Settings > Paddle Mode and turn it ON.

Plug the paddle key into the MIC/GPIO port. Ensure the plug is fully inserted. The device draws no power—it simply acts as a switch interface.

Test transmission. Press either paddle to verify dot (·) and dash (–) transmission. If you hear a tone or see TX indication, it’s working!

Adjust paddle tension if needed. Use the side screws to increase or decrease finger pressure resistance.
