Read More…Transform your Raspberry Pi 5 into a high-performance computing powerhouse with our PCIe to M.2 NVMe SSD Adapter Board. Designed to enhance storage capabilities while maintaining compatibility with the Raspberry Pi 5’s architecture, this adapter is an essential tool for developers, hobbyists, and tech enthusiasts looking to optimize their projects. With support for PCIe Gen2 and Gen3 modes, this product allows you to leverage the speed and efficiency of NVMe solid-state drives, making it an indispensable addition to your Raspberry Pi setup.
Product Highlights: Versatile PCIe Interface: Our adapter supports PCIe x1 connectivity, enabling both Gen2 and Gen3 operation modes. This ensures that your Raspberry Pi 5 can effectively utilize high-speed NVMe SSDs, providing significantly faster data transfer rates compared to traditional storage options.
M.2 M-Key Interface Compatibility: Designed to accommodate 2242 and 2230 sized NVMe SSDs, our adapter allows for a wide range of compatible drives. This flexibility ensures that you can select the SSD that best fits your storage needs and performance requirements.
Flexible SSD System Configuration: The adapter allows for booting from NVMe SSDs while supporting storage expansion. This means you can run your operating system from a TF card while using the SSD for additional storage, making it perfect for projects requiring scalable storage solutions. Efficient Power Design:
The power circuit of the expansion board is designed for a 2A current output. While the Raspberry Pi 5 has a PCIe interface current limitation of 5V1A, our adapter can provide over 3.3V1.5A output to the SSD. This is essential for maintaining optimal performance, as most NVMe SSDs typically have rated currents around 2.5A to 3A.
Dual LED Indicators: With onboard power (“PWR”) and M.2 SSD activity (“ACT”) indicators, you can easily monitor the status of your setup at a glance. This feature enhances user experience by providing real-time feedback on power and activity levels.
High-Quality Components: Constructed with premium electronic components and a gold-plated process, our adapter board ensures durability and longevity. The lead-free production method aligns with environmentally friendly practices, making this product a responsible choice for tech enthusiasts. Thoughtful Design Features:
The board includes four M2.5 mounting holes and a recessed design above the circuit board, which facilitates easy access to the 40-pin GPIO header. This user-friendly design consideration enhances overall usability, allowing you to connect additional components seamlessly. Design Philosophy:
Our design philosophy is rooted in enhancing the Raspberry Pi experience by providing high-quality, reliable components that meet the demands of modern computing. We understand the importance of speed, efficiency, and compatibility in today’s technology landscape, and our PCIe to M.2 NVMe SSD Adapter Board embodies these principles. Each element of the design has been carefully considered to ensure maximum performance while providing users with the flexibility to tailor their Raspberry Pi projects to their specific needs.

Setting Up Raspberry Pi to Boot from SSD: Using TF Card for Boot and SSD for Storage Expansion: 1.Open config.txt and add the following lines at the end: dtparam=nvme dtparam=pciex1_gen=3 The second line sets the interface mode; gen2 mode provides a bandwidth of 5 Gbps, while gen3 mode offers 8 Gbps. If not specified, it defaults to gen2.
Booting from SSD: 1.Set Boot Options: Run the following command to edit the EEPROM configuration: sudo rpi-eeprom-config --edit Change the BOOT ORDER to: : BOOT ORDER=0xf416 Enable PCIE PROBE: PCIE PROBE=1 Save and exit, then reboot. 2.Write the System Image to SSD (Requires SSD Reader): You can use tools like Raspberry Pi Imager on Windows, Linux, or Mac to write the image to the SSD.
Alternatively, boot your Raspberry Pi from the TF card, then install the imager with:
sudo apt install rpi-imager
After installation, you can use the SSD expansion board to write the image directly on the Raspberry Pi.
This will ensure your Raspberry Pi boots from the SSD with expanded storage capabilities!
