I built this infrared detector to find hidden cameras. It uses the principle of infrared light detection of cameras in night mode. In the event of an alarm, it emits a sound signal. The video will tell you more.

The plastic box is made on an SLA 3D printer. A more durable Tough resin is used for better durability. I do my best for good printing, but sometimes not fully perfect. The box has a clip in the back for a better fit. The detector uses a 3V lithium button cell battery. It is operated with only one button.

The detector is intended only for the night search of cameras that use infrared light for their function. The detector filters other light sources to prevent false alarms. Even so, in some cases it reacts with a weak signal to some strong light sources. Triggers can be some old types of street lamps, old types lightbulbs, a burning cigarette or fire, remnants of daylight, a powerful flashlight or vehicle headlights. Simply all light sources in the infrared range. The detector works best outside the city without the interference of old street lamps. The detector does not respond to new types of LED street lamps. Since the detector filters other light sources, it can be used perfectly in combination with a headlamp.

work: After switching on, the detector will calibrate the ambient light and set the threshold level. This will make it possible to work even in conditions shortly after or just before sunset. If necessary, manual calibration can be performed with a short press of the button. The detector regularly calibrates itself after approximately 5 minutes. Mount the detector so that it is not covered. It captures ambient light at a relatively large angle. The signal is also able to be captured by reflection from surrounding objects and vegetation. The detection distance is not limited. It always depends on the strength of the infrared light. The motion sensors in the cameras detect at a maximum distance of 20 meters. The light from the camera can be detected by the detector at a much greater distance. Everything else is intuitive and can be observed from the video.
