This new and improved 2x brighter PCB drives EL wire without any of the annoying buzz, it can drive 8-10nF(1 Sparkfun Wire) of EL wire and can optionally be plug and play. The design removes the noisy transformer that is the source of all other EL Inverter's Noise. The PCB comes fully assembled, with the optional El and USB cables soldered to it.
The PCB works best with 5V input, but can run down to 4V with reduced brightness. It is a great option for EL Art, Hats, Ties, Masks, Bike Helmets etc. The silence is great, especially for EL art in kids bedrooms! The best ways to power this PCB is with a USB power adapter, power strip or PC.
Why did you make it?
I like making EL wire art, I got fairly frustrated with the noise level of the current inverters. I tried many of the suggested noise reduction techniques, none truly worked. I eventually realized that the inverter needed a redesign. So that is what I did, it took 4 major design iterations to get good enough for most applications.
What makes it special?
The most unique feature is the silence, it does not make any noise at all and it is just as bright as the standard inverters.

Must have for EL Projects
The inverters are amazing, they are completely silent (my dimmable IKEA kitchen lights are way louder, in fact I can't hear the inverter at all), they look well made and once I connected everything they worked immediately.
I had quite some trouble with shipping (to Germany), where the package got sent back and took an aweful lot of time to get back to Shane, but that was entirely my fault, as my name was not yet visible at my new place. Shane however was really helpful and always responded fast.
I'm really glad I bought the inverters and I'd do it again, even if that meant I had to go through all the trouble again.

Thanks for the product! Really silent, as promised. Finally I can take it and put it into kid's room!
Only downside - for order of $80 I've paid $25 import tax. But this has nothing to do with the seller, it's Switzerland, baby!
