Great spot welder, easy to install and works like a charm

For DIY Arduino Battery Spot Welder V2 Prebuilt Kit

The spot welder is pretty easy and straight forward to set up. I got the parts (prebuilt kit + diode set) , bought some car battery clamps and set the whole thing up with a used 45Ah car battery that still had some life in it.
The setup was pretty much exactly like in the video. I got the thing working right off the bat, but the welds were pretty crappy at first. I'm assuming that was because of the car battery being used and worn down. Nontheless I downloaded the Arduino code and just adjusted the welding time in one of the first lines to a higher number.

Now the welds work great, look great and do exactly wha they're supposed to do.
The soldering points and general quality of the prebuilt PCB look great as well. I wish I would've invested in one of these way earlier, instead of wasting money trying to build a spot welder with a super capacitor that essentially cost the same.

5 star review and a recommendation for anyone who's looking to build their own battery packs with this thing.

Really nice PCBs

For DIY Arduino Battery Spot Welder PCB Set V2

I haven't soldered the components on the board yet (because the MOSFETs are really expensive in Canada), so I cannot speak of how the spot welder works yet. What I can say is that the pcb is really nice.
I will be using an arduino nano from RobotDyn (Aliexpress seller) who makes and sells really nice quality boards.

Just a great product

Does what is should do. After tweeking the settings, the spot welds are tight.
Maybe a feet switch should be included. I could buy it at a local electronic shop for cheap and the car battery was present.
A better instruction is necessary because without the youtube film you can connect it the wrong way. Once you know it, it's simple. A simple sketch would be enough.

Eight years ago I purchased two Kalkhoff e-bikes. Now the 26 volt 10 ah batteries only have about 50% of their original capacity. This limits their range to about 20 miles. I could not find any source for replacement batteries in the USA. Neither could I find a retailer in Europe who could ship replacement batteries to the USA due to their designation as hazardous material...

The only cost effective option was to build new battery packs myself. Which led to the question of how to interconnect 42 18650 cells. Soldering seemed the least expensive option but I was concerned the heat required to achieve a good bond might compromise the integrity of the battery. The inexpensive 110 volt spot welders based on a large step down transformers were all originally designed to operate on 220 volt circuits. Many users reported that the 'reconfigured' 110 volt models were prone to tripping circuit breakers. Store bought capacitive discharge spot welders were very expensive. Homemade versions seemed dauntingly complex. Some enterprising individuals cobbled together a car battery and solenoid configuration - obviously with limited success:-)

However - the car battery option made first order sense - ie: a readily available source of high direct current - ideal for spot welding! Which led me to a search for essentially a solid state switch/relay capable of handling high current. The DIY Arduino battery spot welder not only fulfills the requirement of a solid state relay but also adds a variable pulse width control feature - all in an inexpensive, compact, well made package.

After performing about 20 test welds I'm already confident that I made the right choice! I did add the diode set - cheap insurance against destroying the Mosfets. I used a 45 ah car battery as recommended. My tests were performed on a pair of .15 mm pure nickel solder tabs. After the tests I used a pair of pliers to pull the strips apart and realized the metal was indeed welded together. To the extent that with most welds the two pieces could not be separated without tearing holes in the strips where the spot welds joined them together.

In every respect I give the product and the seller an excellent rating!

Excellent 18650 Spot Welder

For DIY Arduino Battery Spot Welder V2 Prebuilt Kit

Received my spot welder prebuilt kit a little over a week ago and have done around 300 welds with it building a large eBike battery. So far it works perfectly. I have it hooked up to a 12v 55ah deep cycle battery and the welds are very consistent and strong (will try to include a picture with this review if the system allows). I have found that you need to sharpen the tips after a hundred welds or so as a tiny bit of the copper tip is deposited or vaporized with each weld. Overall I couldn't be happier with how it functions and it is exactly what I needed to build my eBike battery packs.

The appeal of these boards is the joy you get when you collect the parts and solder everything together and get a useful and functional tool. The parts are easy to come by besides the DIP Chips. Once I finish it, it might become my main battery spot welder.

Very nicely designed, looks professional. Just takes a little soldering to have it ready to weld. It does take a little time to get it dialed in and to find the proper size battery for the welding current needed. But once you get it right it's good to go. Much more cost effective than AC spot welding systems. Good product!
