With a background in Mechanical Engineering, I have had an ardent interest in open source hardware for many years. I visited Open Source Ecology for 4 months back in 2014 and have been hoping to make an entry into Open Source hardware entrepreneurship ever since. The modest but tangible magic of 3d printers, and the collection of standard off the shelf components that are available, only just, through mail order, combined with modern CAD software, and of course mechanical engineering skill, sufficient development and production efforts, may make possible some interesting things yet.
It's always a real challenge to even get humble parts or get much truly done. Good quality manufacturing isn't easy. But let's see if we can do something tangible, useful, and economical at the same time, in an enlightened and forward-looking manner.
My designs are open source, and others are free to make their own units for personal use with their own printers. In the future I would like to make the license include commercial use, however that seems ill advised for now.
