Memtype

For Memtype: Open Source Password Keeper

Good product over all. The GUI program is far from easy to get working and is impossible to use on windows 10. Once you do get it working on Linux it won't read or write to the device at all. Overall it's a good device but the lack of documentation is a little annoying.

Thanks for your feedback.

We agree that getting the GUI working on windows 10 is far from easy, that's why we're rewritting it in C++ using libusb1.0.
This allows us to provide an easy installer, you can follow the progress here:

Pretty good, ignore my rating for shipping and communication

For Memtype: Open Source Password Keeper

I got the product within a reasonable amount of time, although it got checked at the post office so it probably took more time than it should have, so ignore my rating for shipping.

I also didn't have to communicate with them about any problems or things like that, so ignore my rating for communication.

It works well, except for the fact that the MemTypeTool didn't work for me on Windows 10, and it only had a text file with the requirements, so I had to use an Ubuntu virtual machine to put passwords on the device and change the pin.

I currently only use it for my most important passwords, because it's a bit annoying to take out and use the joystick for the pin, but that's a thing you sacrifice for the pretty low price and the compactness.

Also, the product feels a bit unprotected as it is pretty much just a bare PCB, but I'm sure I'll be able to find a 3d printed case or even try to design one myself. Again, something that is sacrificed for the low price.

We're close to have an original solution to protect a little bit the MemType PCB. More news about it comming soon :)

Fantastic!

For Memtype: Open Source Password Keeper

The Memtype is a fantastic little device. Installing the MemtypeTool took a bit of research though. From what I could find, there doesn't seem to exist a version of libusb-win32 that is compatible with 64 bit Windows 10. As far as I can tell, this effectively makes putting credentials on the Memtype impossible on Windows 10. After installing the Memtype Tool on a Linux netbook with no issues, everything worked fine and I've very much enjoyed using it.

We're writting from scratch a GUI with newer version of libusb to support windows 8/10 without problems, this rewrite also allows us to provide an easy installer for windows users as well as new features.

Nice approach

For Memtype: Open Source Password Keeper

In order to use it in productive/work environment a backup option is needed. Thus the export button of memtypetool needs a way to encrypt the output. Reported in https://github.com/oyzzo/MemTypeTool/issues/12

Encrypted export is indeed a needed feature and will be soon implemented.
A new web with better documentation and videos is also on the way!
