Very fine Product, added some tuning
For USB Cable Checker
This Checker helped me to sort out bad usb cables. I added 2 things:
1.) A diagnose for the Shield connection, as i had a problem wit a usb 3.0 Cable and a ssd disk at a fritzbox. The WLAN was disturbed. The reason was that the shield was not connected. Therefor I added one 2k2 Resistor and one yellow LED to test this:
+5V - [2k2] - shield of all B-conectors
GND [K LED ye A] - shield of all A-connectors.
If the shield is connected, the yellow LED lights up.
If the shield has an additional connection to GND the yellow LED does not light, as the -now parallel - red GND LED has a lower working voltage.
About 25% of my cables had unconnected shieldings. Some hat GND connected to shield.
2.) For the SSD Cable from USB 3.0 A to USB 3.0 Micro B i made an adapter USB3.0 micro B to USB Type C from two adapter PCBs found on Aliexpress. For type C i found only the male Connector with a pcb, so i need an extra usb-C cable between checker and adapter, but it works. On the pcb of usb-C i lifted the 4 GND Pins of the connector, as they were connected to shield and connected them to GND of the usb 3.0 micro B.
The usb 3.0 ID pin i set on usb C CC2 The 56k LED lights up if connected. The usb 3.0 GND_DRAIN is connected to usb C CC1, but this seems to have no effect. I will change this to use the SBU1 LED at the USB3A DRAIN and connect usb 3.0 GND_DRAIN to usb C SBU 1 on the adapter.
For the USB 3.0 Micro B VBUS, GND, TX1+ TX1-, RX1+, RX1-, D+, D-, Shield and ID are connected and can be tested. A test for GND_DRAIN follows.
I used enamelled copper wire, a fine pitch solder station and a stereo microscope.
As metioned by Daniel | Aug. 20, 2018 it would be nice to have the usb 3.0 micro B Plug. It would be possible to replace the usb 2.0 micro B, as micro 3.0 is backwards compatible.
Perhaps we see a 5.0 with the mentioned additions.
