An Excellent decice!

For Automatic SPDIF (Optical/RCA) Audio Switch

I originally purchased this product for its audio switching capacity. The plan was to run the DVD & TV audio signals through it to prepare to connect to the stereo system. I ordered it with a DAC so it would convert to Analog to run to the analog preamp. In the process I added a Bluesound "Node 2i" streamer which has an internal DAC. So instead of using the Tindie's DAC, I bypassed it and ran the digital audio from the DVD & TV through it and directly into the Node which then converts the digital signal and passes it onto the preamp. This works flawlessly and effortlessly. Which ever audio device is on, based on priority, its sound comes through without manually doing anything. The goal achieved! I'm more than pleased and Benjamin is great to work with. He answered all pre-sales inquiries in a timely fashion which was very helpful in insuring that the device was configured to my requirements. For its, price this is an incredibly valuable piece to add to an AV environment.

Incredible sound and nice maker

For Automatic SPDIF (Optical/RCA) Audio Switch

The Switch is second to none concerning transmission quality and jitter reduction.
It makes me love Toslink again as that nice implementation from Benjie offers both electrical noise isolation AND low jitter (high jitter is a standard issue with toslink). Sturdy build, made to last.

Beni - the maker - is a great guy - nice communication.

Highly recommended!

A simple but useful custom device

For Automatic SPDIF (Optical/RCA) Audio Switch

I was looking for something like this for years. Many speakers only have one input which is usually optical digital but your blu ray player has only a coaxial output, and then, as well a a computer with spdif output you also have an Xbox. But you have only 1 input! This is fixed by this device. It nearly and automatically switches between up to 7 inputs which can also be a nice of coaxial and optical. You can buy extra cables also with the device. This is FAR cheaper than buying a full size AV amp and speakers and very small and near. Because it is automatic you don't need to switch or control anything. It just works. A great device which has made life a little easier for me and sounds good.
Also you can get a dac as an option of your speakers are analogue. This normally costs 30 Euro at least stand alone. Sound is good and it looks very professional

Excellent optical switch

I got this because my Audio Authority was often getting confused with optical signals with just the carrier but no sound. Plenty of devices never switch off the optical carrier like HDMI audio extractors or media streamers. This switch recognizes which device actually outputs audio and switches to it. The switching is not always instant, keep that in mind.

The device comes a sturdy metal case and looks like it will last a long time, There were no instructions.

Don’t forget to order a mini-USB cable with it because chances are you don’t have it since the works moved on to micro-usb.

Just perfect

Only automatic spdif switch I could find on the market. And it's better than I hoped for.

It just works. If a device plays sound, it will switch to it. It's plug, play and forget.
USB-powered. No power plug needed like most devices this small.
Enclosure looks solid and good overall quality.

My only regret, is not knowing about this sooner.

Excellent product, superb quality, works perfectly! Seller and support are top notch. The default switching logic works just great, but it is great to have options to customize it down the road if need be. Great components like this just do their job day-in-day-out. Others have been more polite, but for SEO purposes I will name names...this replaced a Lindy 70405 automatic toslink switcher which deserves the poor reviews it gets. Save yourself the trouble, get this switch and support independent builders!

Great product, just what I needed

For Automatic SPDIF (Optical/RCA) Audio Switch

This is a great product, and does exactly what I needed. The switch looks well made to me, and is simply connect and forget (at least in my use case). The item was well packed and quickly shipped.

My use case:
I got the 4x optical version. On the input side I've connected a LG TV, Apple Airport Express and a Google Chromecast Audio. The TV is on the lowest priority input.
The output is connected to my NAD D3020 amp. This amp has the option to automatically wake up when it detects an active input.

So I can turn on the TV, start a Spotify session on the Chromecast or stream via Airplay to the Airport and the NAD amp will turn on automatically. After receiving no input for 30 mins, the amp turns off by itself.

One thing I noticed, is that when I stop the Spotify session on the Chromecast (by just pressing pause, and not disconnecting the Spotify connect), the Chromecast does not turn off (which is expected for a quick reconnect) but sends out an invalid output. The corrresponding LED on the switch turns yellow. In this case, the switch does not turn off the optical output. Luckily, the NAD amp does turn off after 30 mins while it receives this empty signal, but I don't know if this is the case for other amps. So it might be helpful for some cases to have the option to turn off the output completely when receiving an invalid signal.

Little piece of magic

For Automatic SPDIF (Optical/RCA) Audio Switch

I have a very decent hifi amplifier (with no digital inputs) and a separate dac with only one optical and one coax input.
Connecting a Nintendo Switch, TV, AppleTV and AirPort Express was impossible.
This little device gives me enough inputs to connect all my digital devices to my old amplifier. I have the one with the build-in DAC, connected to my amplifier. It sounds amazing. Really. Compared to my other, more expensive DAC, there are only very small audible differences in really good recorded (classical) pieces. It really is that good.

Plug & Play with DietPi on a Rasperry Pi Zero W

For tinyToslink - Raspberry Pi Optical Audio

Purchased to use on a Raspberry Pi Zero W v1.1 to turn an old iPod Hifi into an airplay source using shairpoint-sync.

Used the DietPi distro (and it's preconfigured shairpoint-sync install) and it was essentially plug & play to get the tinyToslink up and running!

Here's how I got everything working on a raspberry pi zero w with dietpi & shairpoint-sync:

1. Follow the instructions for setting up DietPi on the DietPi site, including connecting to your wifi network (don't worry about adjusting any audio settings/sources in config.txt, DietPi has an easier way once it's up and running). After first boot, SSH into the Raspberry Pi and DietPi will prompt to update. Do these updates. It might take a few minutes.
2. Once the updates have completed the Raspberry Pi will reboot. SSH into the Raspberry Pi, and enter "dietpi-config" (no quotes)
3. From the DietPi-Config screen, select "option 2 : audio options"
4. From audio options, select "soundcard" (it will say "rpi-bcm2835-auto" next to it)
5. From the sound card options, scroll down until you see "hifiberry-digi", and select this by pressing enter.
6. At this point exit the sound card options, audio options, and dietpi-config until you are back at the DietPi terminal
7. Type "reboot" into the terminal (no quotes)
8. After rebooting, the tinyToslink raspberry pi should appear in iOS as an airplay audio source called "dietpi" and should be working with whatever audio software you'd like to airplay from.

Optional: Change the name of your shairpoint-sync device from DietPi to whatever you'd like by going to: dietpi-config –– 6 : security options –– 2 : change hostname.

Best SPDIF switch I ever tested

I waited some time with this review. Now, that I'm using the device for about 5 months, I'd like to thank a lot for that really solid and more than well built and working switch. You have done a great job in designing and building the electronics and in finishing the mechanical part. The enclosure is finished with great care and precision! To have such a level of professional and fast support would be good to have from any real commercial supplier! Would be nice to hear about new developments from you.

Essential purchase if you have multiple SPDIF sources.

I have three SPDIF sources (TV, Chromecast Audio and DVD player) which I used to connect to the DAC via a manual switch - now replaced by the basic 4 input optical only version of the Automatic SPDIF Audio Switch. The main benefit is that of convenience, but the jitter reduction is an unexpected bonus which makes me wonder about the expensive reclocker add-ons on the market. The device responds quickly without any noise or glitches. I requested - and received by return - the app to change the indicator light behaviour and was able to stop the red flashing on the inactive inputs.
Deserves to be more widely publicised - I came across it by chance by browsing around audio sites.

A one-of-a-kind product!

I'm pretty sure you can't find anything like this SPDIF switch anywhere on Earth besides this store. While there are some headaches with SPDIF devices that always put out SPDIF signals, there are some serial commands that help out a lot with this. Seller shipped extremely fast (it took longer to propagate through the US than it took to arrive from Austria!) and has been a great help.

If you do get the DAC option and level match with your existing DAC, you might be surprised how good this ES9023 can sound...

Exactly what I needed!

For Automatic SPDIF (Optical/RCA) Audio Switch

The product is perfect and well done constructed.
I looked on the internet for something that does that to connect with my Sonos Sound System (Plex, PC, UPC TV Box) and all solutions I found were super expensive and with too much extra that I didn't need it. This box does the job perfectly fine.
The USB cable to connect on the TV as a power supply is a perfect idea.

It’s doing exactly what it says on the box, and so far has been very reliable at that. If I could change one thing I’d make the LEDs less bright or not blinking - that can be distracting in a dark room. Otherwise it is a great product which for some reason you can’t find anywhere else!

Ideal for the purpose

A great product which does everything I needed, echoing everyone else in that I'm amazed that it didn't exist before, it's a great idea. It allows me to run multiple sources of the same connection type to my external DAC which otherwise wouldn't be able to handle all the inputs or the switching aspect (which was why I first bought it).

Beni, you mention below it's possible to connect it to a PC and check what the switch is doing, any chance you could let me know how? It'd be interesting to have a look and then also see what flexibility there is.

It seemed like a simple issue to me: automatically switch between two toslink cables (one from a TV; one used for a projector) into a sonos sound bar (which has a single toslink input). However, no one in the world apparently makes them. Everything on Amazon, etc. either doesn't work or requires the use of a remote to switch between the two cables. This works flawlessly and automatically. And shipped pretty darned quickly from Austria to California! Thank you!

Made my setup mother-proof

For Automatic SPDIF (Optical/RCA) Audio Switch

Excellent product. It made my A/V-system so easy to use that even my elderly mother can use every part of it when she's visiting. Going from watching a youtube video to playing a record is as simple as powering on the player. I only have one small issue and that is with my CD-player. When I first turn it on, the switch recognizes it and turn the light green. However after a few seconds (in the time it takes me to put a CD in it) the LED turns yellow and it switches back to the lower input in line. Pressing play does not prompt it to switch back to the CD-player input. The only solution I've found is to turn the player off and on again after loading it with a CD and pressing play in the seconds before the LED turns yellow.

Otherwise I'm very happy with it :)

EDIT: The CD player is connected to an optical input.

First of all: thank you for your review
To give you some details about this:
You switch the CD player on and the switch switches to it because it has a higher priority - but the pakets sent from the CD player are invalid (no audio) so the switch marks the input as invalid and falls back to the next active input (it looks like the next input has a valid signal [green LED]) - as the CD player input is marked as invalid it will only fall back to it if the signal is gone and pops up again or if the signal on the current input is also lost (or invalid).
Basically if you have for example 2 active inputs where both transmit invalid data it will jump between the 2 inputs every few seconds until one input gets valid.
Best for an automatic switch is when the signal is completely turned off when there is no data (light in the cable off).
If you want I can provide a software update to increase the timeout, before the input gets marked as invalid, so that you have more time to start the CD when you switch your CD player on (I'll contact you via email).

I got the variant with a DAC. I use it to connect my TV and a Chromecast Audio to a Hi-Fi amplifier.
It does the job perfectly: sound quality is good, no delay, switches very quickly.
