Wonderful solution that allows you to use standard FDD on older Tandy 1000 series.
Now I can rest easy knowing I have alternatives to the very rare proprietary FDD. Thanks!
Would be sure to double check inputs because improper connection carries real risk of hardware damage.

Works great in IBM 5150 and 5160

For SmartWatch+ Clock & Calendar Module

The PC/XT compatible version fits perfectly on my IBM 5160's motherboard (64-256k board with 28 pin BIOS ROM sockets) in socket U18 under one of the BIOS ROMs.

The IBM 5150 has 24 Pin ROM sockets so this module will not fit, unless you have an expansion card with an Expansion ROM socket such as an XT-IDE. I put my SmartWatch+ module between my XT-IDE board and the XT-IDE Boot ROM and the SmartWatch+ module is recognised and works perfectly. People with an early 5160 board using 24 pin ROMs may have to do the same thing.

The boards are well made and designed, and the new redesign fits very well. Works perfectly as per the documentation with the y2k updated SMWCLOCK.COM file that can be found in various places online.

Great way to get Tandy graphics onto more modern displays. I even set up my Tandy through this onto a projector. Nothing like seeing Deskmate on a 120" screen! lol. Works really well. Lots of settings.

Easy way to install a Gotek into a Tandy.

I wish these were available 30 years ago.

For Tandy 1000 EX/HX PLUS-ISA/R Adapter

I bought a new 1000 EX when I was in high school and always suspected the Plus ports were ISA compatible. I even tried to cobble together an adapter for a HD controller, but it never worked out...lol I eventually sold it to buy a new SL with a hardcard, but I always missed that EX.
I recently purchased another EX and these adapters were the first thing I bought for it so I could use an XT-IDE. Finally have an EX with the hard drive storage I always wanted.

This Tandy Smartwatch+ has finally given my Tandy 1000ex the ability to tell time, or more specifically, keep it. Might seem like a small thing, but entering the date and time at every boot is annoying and this fixes that issue. The seller is awesome and got a the product out to me quickly and it arrived safely.

Perfect ISA adapter for the Tandy 1000EX/HX

For Tandy 1000 EX/HX PLUS-ISA/R Adapter

Perfect product for the Tandy 1000 EX/HX. Used it for a compact flash adapter for my 1000HX with existing original Tandy RAM/DMA board and serial adapter.
Shipping from Australia to the USA sucks but that is not the sellers fault (My father lives in Western Australia shipping suck to and from). Would by again and am planning on buying more products from this seller.

Great little adapter

This is pretty much essential if you don’t own an old cga monitor. I got this primarily for my Tandy 1000 but works equally well with my Compaq Portable. Set up was easy enough and it has a lot of settings for fine tuning. Overall I am very pleased.

An absolutely great piece of tech for your Tandy 1000!

For SmartWatch+ Clock & Calendar Module

Received my SmartWatch+ in the mail today... and after cutting away the RF shield with a pair of tin snips, installation was a piece of cake! The SmartWatch+ fits perfectly into the BIOS ROM slot, and the BIOS ROM chip is very easily seated into the SmartWatch+.

I should also mention that I had some questions before getting the SmartWatch+ today, and can definitely report that you can buy from Cybernatic Systems with great confidence! In talking to the owner, it became clear to me that the owner is a vintage tech enthusiast like myself and loves to tinker just as much as I do! The level of support that I have received on this product and on other products has been unprecedented.

Combined with other parts purchased here, my Tandy 1000 HX is now completely loaded and decked out! The parts offered here have breathed new life into this machine.

I had the drive, and now I have the cable!

I recently picked up a Tandy 1000 HX from a local seller, and was excited to see that it included a 5.25" external drive.. but unfortunately was missing the cable. This cable is a perfect fit and is good and snug. It has adapters on each end which are also a perfect fit. Plugged this cable in and the drive fired right up!!

Anyone who has interacted with the owner will also realize that making these types of products is truly his passion, and that's reflected in the communication and support regarding his products. I can't thank him enough for manufacturing this product and making it available for sale, it's greatly appreciated by retro enthusiasts!!

Perfect product to breathe new life into my Tandy 1000 HX

For Tandy 1000 EX/HX PLUS-ISA/R Adapter

I recently picked up a Tandy 1000 HX and wanted to "trick" it out a bit, with the desire to add a Monotech XT-CF mini as well as a SIIG JJ-A21012 ISA I/O Card. I ordered two of these adapters to support this. This in turn allowed me to add a 256MB Sandisk CF card and a Xircom PE3-10BT Ethernet Network Adapter. And this product worked absolutely flawlessly. It's a perfect fit within the case, and I was even able to add serial headers in "front" of the XT-CF mini. I really couldn't be more pleased: my Tandy 1000 HX now boots from the compact flash card and gets on my SMB network using MS LAN Manager and TCP/IP!

So, if you too want to "trick" out your Tandy 100 EX/HX and already have a PLUS card, this is a product for you. Anyone who has interacted with the owner will also realize that making these types of products is truly his passion, and that's reflected in the communication and support regarding his products. I can't thank him enough for manufacturing this product and making it available for sale, it's greatly appreciated by retro enthusiasts!!

Worked great in my Tandy 1000HX. Great product. Not a complaint, but kinda wish it used cr2032 batteries, but I don't really care... I won't have to worry for YEARS about replacing it. Lol. Thanks again and five stars across the board.

PS, the CR1632 takes up a lot less space than the CR2032 and most super markets carry them too making them a good compromise.

Can confirm this works in both EX models

For Tandy 1000 EX SmartWatch+

I have installed a few of these, even in one of the models that has the BIOS chip in the middle of the board. If your EX has the BIOS chip in the PLUS expansion bay area then you won't even need to pull your EX apart to install it (other than removing any PLUS cards you may installed). It's even easier to install than the HX Smartwatch+. However, if you have an EX with the BIOS chip in the middle of the motherboard the entire computer will need to be torn down. There are a few modifications that need to made to get the Smartwatch+ module to fit properly. I have uploaded complete instructions of what I had to do as well as pictures to Cybernetic Systems so they will be able to inform you on the mods required. Nothing major and no special tools needed.

To find out which model of EX you have simply pull your PLUS expansion cards and look under the cardboard foil. If you see your BIOS chip there then you will not need to tear down your system. If all you see there are a few 14 pin RAM chips then you have the BIOS chip in the middle.

As with all the other Cybernetic Systems products I have purchased to date the quality of this Smartwatch+ module is excellent. I highly recommend this module for your EX if you would like to have the benefit of an RTC installed.

Edit: I just read the other review left in February. I had to install a second socket to act as a riser as well. Cybernetic Systems may be able to supply you with pins to raise the board slightly instead of having to source a socket to install.

This is a great solution for the lack of available smartwatch chips, a simple trim of the RF shield allows it to fit on the motherboard and I don't think it could be any more compact than it is.

Installs easy and allowed me to connect a backpack external 1.44mb floppy drive which worked perfectly so all signals are correctly routed. And again Tindie wants 100 characters when one quarter of that is sufficient.

Although this is intended to allow people with no memory expansion to use two expansion cards I am using it with a memory expansion to house 4 cards total and it works wonderfully for this role.

For SmartWatch+ Clock & Calendar Module

This worked great in my Tandy 1000 hx. I did not need to cut the shielding as prescribed, because I had an extra IC socket I could layer it over to rise above the shielding. I placed some insulating electrical tape over the shielding, below this adapter, just in case.

I'm running DOS 5, which supported setting the date with a 4 digit year, even though the prompts do not reflect that.

Works Perfectly!

For SmartWatch+ Clock & Calendar Module

I just finished installing the SmartWatch+ into my Tandy 1000 HX and it works beautifully. My HX had a real-time clock installed years ago but the batteries ran out and they weren't replaceable. The SmartWatch+ uses a standard coin battery for easy replacement ... nice touch! Installing the SmartWatch+ into a Tandy 1000 HX will require you to completely tear down the computer and remove the metal shield covering the motherboard. The hole exposing the BIOS chip will need to be enlarged to accommodate the larger size of the SmartWatch+. The documentation suggests using tin snips but I used a metal nibbler and had the hole enlarged in less than 10 minutes. Here's a tip: Install the SmartWatch+ module into the motherboard first, then install the BIOS chip into the SmartWatch+ BIOS socket. It will take a bit of down-force to get the BIOS chip to seat firmly into the SmartWatch+'s BIOS socket. Here's another tip: When putting your HX back together, test the keyboard BEFORE you put the case cover back on. One of the keyboard ribbon cables wasn't seated properly and I had to tear the HX apart for a second time. It only took me an hour to complete the SmartWatch+ upgrade to my system and that included having to tear down the system a second time for the keyboard SNAFU. Setting the clock for the first time is easy: Issue the DATE and TIME DOS commands and enter the current date/time. Next, type SMWCLOCK C to set the SmartWatch+'s date and time. Then, simply add the command SMWCLOCK S to your AUTOEXEC.BAT startup file to have the date and time set automagically every time you turn your Tandy on. Brilliant!

Great addition to my Tandy 1000 HX

I had been wanting to install an XT-IDE into my Tandy 1000 HX for a while now and the only feasible way is with this adapter. I now have an HX system with a 128MB CF hard drive installed thanks to this little adapter. I highly recommend this adapter if you have a Tandy 1000 EX or HX system just begging for an XT-IDE upgrade. Communication with the company has been awesome as well. Whenever I have had a question or concern the owner has been right there to help. Because of this I purchased the Tandy 1000 EX/HX printer port adapter and Tandy 1000 SX/HX real time clock as well.

Nicely made adpater

For Tandy 1000 Printer Port Adapter

I purchased this adapter for my Tandy 1000 HX computer. My original thought was to connect a Xircom PE3-10BT parallel port Ethernet adapter to it. To my surprise the Tandy 1000 HX printer port will not support this (no fault of this adapter). It is nice however to use a standard Centronics parallel cable to connect my printer instead of using the original Tandy card edge cable which is very bulky and non-flexible. With this adapter I'll also have the ability to connect a parallel port sound card in the future if I wish.

Great little device!

For Tandy 1000 EX SmartWatch+

This is a neat little device that adds a battery backed RTC to your Tandy 1000 EX - the device is well made and easy to install as per the comprehensive instructions. I have a UK Tandy 1000 EX which it turns out has a somewhat different PCB layout than the US version, with the ROM chip being located more centrally in the PCB, rather than in the location under the expansion bay shown in the instructions. By fitting a DIL socket to act as a riser between the ROM socket on the PCB and the board, this RTC board will comfortably fit inside a UK Tandy 1000 EX - fantastic!
