Works as intended out of the box! Web updater may need work?
For SoundSlide
Saw this on The Verge one day and immediately knew I had to have it. I have a Framework 16 and dual-booting Windows & Zorin (Linux distro) can be annoying to adjust volume as sometimes I forget to initiate the FN lock every time (to adjust volume) and I constantly get frustrated with it.
This immediately fixed the problem! Plugged it in and immediately started working to adjust volume. No setup or drivers required. On Windows, it increases/decreases volume 4 steps at a time. Very pleasing to operate and reacts immediately!
I even plugged it into the USB-C port on my Galaxy Tab S9, Galaxy Z Flip6 and Pixel 9 and it worked immediately to control volume there too! Also worked as expected on an M4 Mac Mini. I don't have any USB-C iOS devices, but I assume it works like magic there as well.
Other USB-C devices I tried that were weird/didn't work:
-Steam Deck - works intermittently. It's not designed for it and it already has dedicated volume buttons ,but I thought it was interesting it worked...sometimes and when it did there was a lot of lag in the UI when adjusting volume. Not really an issue, but interesting the behavior was different.
- 2024 Chevy Equinox EV (runs Android Automotive OS) - USB device not supported when plugged into either USB-C port. Had to try! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Now if you're just using this for volume control, then it's a 5-star product, buy it, you won't regret it!
However, I did want to try out the customization and check for firmware updates - I docked a star under documentation for this as it seems the config web tool does not work and there doesn't seem to be any troubleshooting steps about it. :/
On Windows using Chrome on their website for configuration - the device is detected by WebUSB and even says "SoundSlide - Paired" but I just get an error saying "Failed to execute 'open' on 'USBDevice': An operation that changes interface state is in progress.". I tried a different USB-C port and also an incognito window. Same error. I rebooted to Zorin and it's the same error except it says "Access Denied" after USBDevice.
I will reach out to the creator to see if they have a solution and will come back to update if there is a solution.
Also, in regards to the other 1-star reviewer - this is not a scam, and you need to be patient. This was my timeline for delivery (USA):
- Nov. 22nd - Ordered from Tindie.
- Nov. 23rd - Email from creator stating there might be some residue on the gold contacts that may appear during shipping that may need to be cleaned off upon arrival. No residue upon delivery, did not impact me at all!
- Nov. 26th - Shipped!
- Dec. 2nd - Delivered!
This was a totally reasonable delivery time especially during the holidays and didn't deserve 1-star, you people are ruthless.
Other than the config tool not working initially (assuming there is a fix for this), 5 stars! Excellent product, keep it up!
