Amazing controller and great support

For ElectroMage Pixelblaze V2+ WiFi LED Controller

Electromage was extremely helpful, friendly, and responds quickly to questions. I decided to buy the arduino programmer after placing an order and he helped me change it so I wouldn't have to pay double for shipping. Shipping was very fast; I got my controller within two days after placing my order.

The PixelBlaze v2 is a great product and easy to setup. The GUI is well designed and easy to use. I had it up and running within a day. My only suggestion would be to add a global speed slider.

Unbeblinkenlievable

With a great interface and a bunch of ready-made patterns to be used as tutorials, this controller lets you skip all the tedium and go straight to blinkenheaven.
Goes great with Fibonacci series of LED disks.

Makes star wiring and power delivery much easier

For ElectroMage Pro 8x WS2812/APA102 LED Driver

I purchased this for a star-topology wiring project after doing a prior one and running 18AWG all over the place to chain up some LED strips.

I've also used the smaller 3A version, but for most installs over 180 strip pixels, you'd need separate power distribution to support more pixels. This gets you to 900 pixels at an average 5V duty cycle, and makes 12V distribution much easier as well.

The phoenix-style pluggable screw terminal blocks made for a lot less soldering and wiring (my least favorite part of any project), and makes hot-swapping spare strips a lot easier.

Fantastic product: up and running in 15 minutes

For ElectroMage Pixelblaze V2+ WiFi LED Controller

I had not ever worked with LED strips before, but this little controller made it a piece of cake. I soldered on the power connector and the expansion connector, wired it up to the 5 meter LED strip using the connector/wires that came with the LED strip, and connected it up to the power supply. Worked first time!

What really impressed me, though, was the attention to detail in the software. It was super easy to connect to it from my laptop, using the Cloud-based discovery mechanism thoughtfully provided, and then it was super easy and fun to try out different patterns. The user interface is superb!

Documentation is outstanding, too. I'm going to have a lot of fun with this thing....

All around, it's clear to me that this guy knows what he is doing -- very impressive. I would not hesitate to recommend this controller to anybody wanting to play around with LED lighting strips. If you can do some simple soldering, you can probably make this work.

This will change your life if you love LEDs

For ElectroMage Pixelblaze V2+ WiFi LED Controller

This is the best thing ever.

It is just as cheap as a good microcontroller. It takes about 3 minutes to set up and wire and have strips do tens of preloaded amazing patterns, and the ability to write code with live updates to make more patterns is so good.

I can't stop buying these.

There's a forum (forum.electromage.com) where the creator Ben Hencke will answer your questions within an hour.

Absolutely fantastic device

This device is seriously amazing. I have a 100 pixel WS2811 strip that I was able to wire to the Pixelblaze within minutes. The wifi configuration and web interface are very intuitive. This is the simplest way I have found to get right to the fun part of generating patterns. Well done!

Simple; Works perfect

I was able to use this to flash an ESP32 using esptool.py with no surprises. Solder a header, plug in micro USB, and it works. Pinout is default compatible with Pixelblaze.

The most inexpensive 8x8 NeoPixel around.

For ElectroMage 8x8 LED Matrix (SK6812)

At $14, this is the most inexpensive 8x8 WS2812b matrix you can find. Adafruit and Sparkfun also deserve our business, but they sell their equivalent for $35. You can order direct from Shenzhen on eBay and Aliexpress for about $7 shipped, but most will take a month to arrive. I ordered this on a Friday and received it on Monday (US WA->CA).

I've been using this as a way to learn pixel mapping and it's my first time working with a matrix. Setup was straightforward, took a minute to solder, and worked easily with Pixelblaze defaults.

I'm basically on my webcam all day now, so when I'm not writing patterns with it I use it as a color-correcting light source to augment my poor room lighting. That means I can speak favorably of the working life and heat handling a bit, as I've had it on about 10 hours a day for 2.5 months.

Disclosure: I'm a self-admitted Pixelblaze superfan. I help a lot of people on the forums and produce some Pixelblaze documentation, but I receive no compensation from Ben (AKA Wizard/ElectroMage) other than a few boards of beta hardware that I've agreed to help test.

Initially, I was a "little" skeptical at purchasing the expansion board. I wondered if it was "really" worth the extra $29. I took the leap and was amazed at the increased functionality - especially for my application. I recently purchased 31 Pixelblazes and 31 expansion boards (and plan to order more) and after having spent time with the Pixelblaze + expansion board, I would never order a Pixelblaze without it.

Incredible Device for an Incredible Price

I've been looking the last 6+ months for a device like this. I even purchased a few options such as the DMX King, Arduino, etc. to test out. These devices were not appropriate for my application. Just one week before coming across the Pixelblaze, I contracted an engineer to design and fabricate a bluetooth version of this device. A week later, I found the Pixelblaze. Originally, I purchased 2 Pixelblazes + expansion boards. After spending 2 weeks with the Pixelblaze, I was so pleased that I cancelled my contract with the engineer as the Pixelblaze was "literally" years ahead of where we were starting. At this price point, nothing comes close to the functionality, ease of use and customer support for the Pixelblaze. Nothing. After having spent the last 3 weeks, learning the software and checking out the forum, which has been extremely helpful and supportive. I just purchased an additional 31 units and plan to purchase more. This is why I can truly say, "It is an incredible device for an incredible price!"

The most amazing widget I have ever seen!

I have tried various other ways of controlling addressable LEDs, but the Pixelblaze is head and shoulders above the rest. Its list of features is astoundingly long, but my top 3 are: WiFi AP or client operation, powered from the LED strip, controllable via WebSocket. The creator is very responsive and the community seems vibrant though I haven't had time to wade in. I ported my existing project in an hour. If you want to do anything interesting with LEDs, Pixelblaze is the way to go!

Amazing 'All-in-One' Product for Beginners and Professionals

Quality products, great service

This product is awesome! I bought 8 in one go. The support is fantastic, Ben answered questions I had quickly and was able to add an additional unit to the order.
The only thing better is the product itself, highly recommend it if you have some LEDs that need controlling. The app is great and very powerful. It suits both beginners and advanced users.
My intent was to have something I could quickly set up and get going, and the pixelblaze delivered that.
Multiple can be controlled via a raspberry pi and 'firestorm'.

One of the greatest WOW factors I've ever seen in a product. The lights look BRILLIANT and the sheer diversity of the colours and patterns is mind-boggling. The ability to make and edit the patterns AND sequence them is just superb. So much fun to be had using the presets, let alone digging into the simple coding language to make your own. Amazing amazing amazing product.... The wireless capability and online software are out of this world. Give this man an OBE!

Great piece of hardware made even better by great software!

The PixelBlaze makes individually addressable LEDs accessible for people that are not into electronics. All I had to do was solder on the screw header thingy, which was quite easy for my first time soldering :)
Then the fun begins, you hook up a LED strip and start playing with light inside the phenomenal IDE that is hosted on the PixelBlaze. The excellent documentation and samples allow you to quickly learn and explore.

Having the code editor adjust the pattern as you type is just amazing. What a pleasant experience. This can't be overstated!

I love Pixelblaze

For ElectroMage Pixelblaze V2+ WiFi LED Controller

It is very easy to use and very intuitive interface that allows me to control the patterns in my LED project with more ease than say, an arduino. The fact that the code updates instantly as you write or change it is very helpful in learning how to write code for led strips. It's also nice to be able to mess around with the code or change the pattern from my cell phone or tablet rather than having to carry around a laptop. Plus it's wireless! Which saved me so much hassle of having to create a usb port in my project so I could update codes or switch out patterns. The forums on the ElectroMage website are super helpful and Ben himself is usually able to answer any questions, help troubleshoot, and he even takes suggestions for added features in future updates.
I give it a 9/10 and I'm looking forward to future updates which will essentially make it perfect.

Amazing product, quick to setup, great flexibility

I've been playing with LED systems for a while now and i'm really excited i came across the PixelBlaze V2. Super simple to connect and get up, and great flexibility in the system. There's a lot of great examples already loaded to give you ideas for programming your next animation. Great support through forums and examples.

The only "heads up" that i came across, when accessing the system through my phone, i needed to turn off my data in order to force the wifi connection to try and load the home page.

Super impressed, excited to use this more!

I purchased 2 of everything (Pixelblaze, Sensor Expansion, 8 channel driver), so I could experiment with all the options including Firestorm for network synchronization and would definitely be buying more of the Serial to 8 channel drivers to max them out for special displays. Great Controller - even for LED Panels

I am no electronic expert and this is my first LED project. Having some soldering experience I wanted to built a Eurorack case for modular synthesizer with lightning. Pixelblaze seemed perfect for this - and it is!
Just plugged the Panels in, connected to power, chose a sound expression and: wow!
Also Ben answered my question directly.
Just a hint: 512 LEDs need a lot more power than USB provides, so I bought a 150 Watt power supply. Calculate is wisely ...

Addressable LEDs made easy!

For ElectroMage Pixelblaze V2+ WiFi LED Controller

In the past I used my own NodeMCU systems to drive addressable LEDs like the WS2812. After getting tired of tracking down subtle errors and memory leaks, I decided to go with something that works out of the box so I could spend more time developing effects. The PixelBlaze was the perfect solution!

With its wifi captured-portal setup, it was a breeze to get on my network. Once connected, I can log in using my browser to edit any of the included effects (or make my own) and see the results in real time! In my mind this is THE ideal controller for driving these strips.

The fit and finish of the PixelBlaze is good; excellent solder work. Keep in mind you will need to solder on the screw terminals if you choose to use those; they're through-hole so even someone who is weak at soldering like myself should be able to do it no problem. If you have never soldered before, grab an iron, some lead-free solder, and a youtube video and you'll be ready to get to work with your pixel blaze in no time.

I even reached out to Ben with some technical questions and got some great advice on my desired use case for the PixelBlaze. Next year I will be purchasing several more of these to run different LED strips throughout my home.

Simple to use and quite powerful

For ElectroMage Pixelblaze V2+ WiFi LED Controller

Setup couldn't be simpler. Connect to the wireless network it creates and then tell it which wireless network to connect to and the password. Then connect to the device on my network. The web page it provides tells you all about programming it. I was able to add a motion detector and light sensor with no problems and make a program which responds to motion and lighting conditions.
