For GW-12887-1 Dallas DS12887 RTC Replacement Module

I fit this module in my aging Yamaha AW4416 Audio Workstation. It runs again! For a nicely designed product the price is very competitive against the other options out there. Having the battery included was a nice touch as well. Thank you. Please build more. I'd certainly buy again.

Edit: I have since bought two more. Good product.

Built and tested full kit and CF board.

For Glitch Works 8085 SBC rev 4 Mini

Built the kit, goes together fast and worked first time.

Not a big fan of doing bitbash serial but its economical
and cuts the number of parts. However its half duplex so
CTRL-C does not interrupt the IO. Plainly listening while
spinning the CPU is not done.

My goal would be to mod it for a serial IO card as there i a bus for that.
Then I need software sources for the monitor and CP/M BIOS
so I can add "disks" being the CF is far larger than 8MB. The existing
sources only go as a far as the R3 board and nothing about the
CP/M BIOS.

Documentation was more than adequate to build and test but
woefully lacking to do any modification of the software.
The CF board was put together using guess and by golly
as it as mostly just populating the board.

I've emailed the owner and no response.

Fun project for a rainy afternoon

For Glitch Works 8085 SBC rev 4 Mini

I assembled the kit in about 2 hours and managed to boot it successfully through an FTDI adapter on the first try! The manual was helpful in providing assembly and testing instructions though I would have liked a picture in the manual (or on tindie) of a completed board as a reference example. Shipping was fast and efficient.

Excellent replacment!

I bought a pair to replace failed DS1287's in Commodore PC40-III and another small 286 motherboard. These GW-12887-1's did the trick. If I need more in the future, this will by my first choice.

Excellent backplane

For Reproduction OSI 582 4-Slot Backplane Motherboard

If you're building a small OSI system, this is a great option. Build quality is solid, which you need considering how much OSI cards like to hold onto their backplanes.

A faithful recreation

For Reproduction OSI 400 6502/6800/6501 CPU Board

This is a really well done recreation of the original OSI-400 board, and the vintage parts kits make it even more accessible and authentic looking. I went with the 6512 for maximum hard-mode, but it was worth it.

Works great on multiple devices

For GW-12887-1 Dallas DS12887 RTC Replacement Module

I got four of these about two years ago but only had the chance to install them recently. I've installed three of them so far, all work perfectly. I've installed them in the following devices:

AOpen AP5VM (Socket 7) motherboard; this had a DS12B887 and the CMOS clear still works after the swap.
Compaq SLT 386s/20 portable, originally had a DS1287. Clearance is tight but still fits and works.
PTV PT5210 sync generator with PT8637 clock module; this is a piece of professional TV test equipment that originally had a ST Microelectronics RTC. Works perfectly here too.

I still have a Compaq SLT/286 to do but I don't think I'll have any issues with that either.

Excellent Drop-in Replacement

For Glitch Works GW-1225-1 Dallas DS1225 Replacement

I used the GW-1225-1 as a replacement for a matching Dallas chip in an old Pit Boss video poker machine. Worked instantly without out any setup, and the video poker machine runs like a champ, again. Thank you!

I bought this to replace a DS1287 in an Epson laptop.

At first the computer would work after I entered all the CMOS values. They were retained when I rebooted with Ctrl + Alt + Del but lost if I powered down. Then I bent the two pins out of the way that are on the 12887 but absent on the 1287. And voila! It works perfectly.

Worth it

For GW-12887-1 Dallas DS12887 RTC Replacement Module

I used this in an old Tektronix TLA 704 logic analyzer, which had the 12887 soldered directly to the board (ugh). This at first seems pricey considering there are hacks to add this same functionality to an existing 12887, but the module is really nicely made and convenient and, I think, kind of cute. Heads up this seems to have the same pinout as the 12887 except for a couple pins (I think 21 and 22) which weren't there on the 12887 in my machine. I opted to bend them up to avoid doing any more unnecessary desoldering in case it didn't work. But it did! Like a charm. Unplugged the machine for a while and plugged it back in just to be sure.

Great drop in replacement

For GW-12887-1 Dallas DS12887 RTC Replacement Module

This works just like the original. No issues with any of the machines I have tried it on. From late 80s microchannel PS/2 to late 90s Pentiums, no issues at all. The only downside, if there is one, is the look. It just doesn't look right. However that got me thinking about a 3d printed cover for the chip and battery. Don't have time to mess with it right now, but I will look into this over the winter.

Oh, and a surprise is that it came with a battery. I wasn't expecting that, but it is a nice touch that it was usable right out of the box.

Saved my logic analyzer!

I needed to replace the dead battery in the DS1387 in my logic analyzer, and this board did the trick! It's especially convenient if you have a DS1385.

Quality product perfect for old S100 systems

For Reproduction Solid State Music T1 S-100 Terminator

Bought this as I have an old Cromemco Z-1 system with a MASSIVE unterminated 21 slot S100 backplane. Been on the lookout for an active terminator board for years but they are hard to find and expensive when you do. Thought I'd have to make one myself on a prototype board and then I came across this repro SSM terminator. The board is of high quality. It looks just like an old hand designed board with thick traces and nice big solder pads. Being a short board, it doesn't get in the way of my crimped DB25 connectors behind the final slot. I can see why this board was reproduced as it does the job without being a pain in the backside. It's an easy build too. Probably unnecessary as I'm running a 4MHz Z80 but I do plan on using the machine as a testbed for other boards I plan to build, some of which have faster CPUs that require active termination.

As a side note, I live in Australia and wasn't expecting to see this for quite a while considering how much Covid-19 has affected the speed of shipping. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly it got here.

Simply the BEST option for a DS12887 replacement

I have several vintage PCs where I have used these chips, ranging from a PS/2 Model 30 286 to a Dual Pentium Pro system, and everything in between. These are of the highest quality and have a great fit and finish! I couldn't be more pleased. Naturally, installation is a breeze, and the battery placement makes changeout a snap.

Worked perfectly in HP 3000

Just replaced the Dallas DS1287 in my HP 3000/927LX with this module and it worked perfectly. The system requires a working RTC to even boot, so this was a huge help in restoring this retro computer. I have a really rare early dual Pentium Pro motherboard (AMI MERLIN DP). The hardest part was removing the old Dallas RTC. Once this was done, installation was a snap, and it works great.

Perfect replacement for retro computer RTC chips.

I used it as a replacement for ODIN OEC12C887A chip with sealed in battery that is not user replaceable. The GW-12887-1 DS12887 RTC Replacement Module was an easy replacement, works just like the original and has replaceable battery in case the one that came with dies one day. I'm glad these replacement modules are being made to keep our retro computers going.

I have an old Pentium motherboard and the Dallas/RTC ran out of juice. It was supposed to be my MS-DOS machine and this issue complicated that. Thankfully the RTC on this motherboard was socketed. Ordered the replacement and plugged it in. The machine fired up like it was brand new. I am extremely pleased because this machine is really old. I think I received it back in 1997. Thank you.

Superb!

I was amazed to discover that someone in 2021 was making replacements for the old Dallas RTC modules. I am a vintage PC geek and was disappointed to discover that my lovely Gateway 2000 P-60 DOS PC would not even boot or see the hard drive because of a failing RTC module. Then further dismay when I realised it was not a simple matter of replacing a cell watch type battery on my board. But then along comes this GW-12887 to save the day!! works flawlessly, simple pop out pop in replacement (luckily mine was socketed) and my PC is working again and I can relive my childhood playing all those awesome DOS games I remember from my youth. Fast delivery and great service all round, awesome!

I bought a bare circuit board - good quality and easy to ass

I bought the bare PCB for the 8085 because I already had most of the components. I bought the CF card kit that goes with it. Boards are of good quality, and were easy to assemble. In hindsight I should have bought the complete SBC kit as it then comes with software, as this would have streamlined things. The CPU board is quite flexible about ways the memory can be configured. I am happy with my purchase and support I received. Thanks

A good addition to the 8085 SBC.

For Glitch Works 8255 PPI Parallel Card for Glitchbus

The 8255 is a great addition to any 8085 SBC. The ability to have input and output bits available makes the controller useful for many applications. It would be better if the port C pins were brought out to a header like the other two ports.
