For ESP8266 WIFI Movement Sensor
The product is simple and works great.
Shipping from Canada toUS took longer than expected but not a big issue. BTW, you can track a Canadian tracking number thru USPS once it crosses the border.
Documentation is lacking and caused some extra testing on my part to understand how this works. Here's some of what I learned to save you some effort:
1) The device has LEDs showing power and whether it's connected to the network. It behaves as a wifi access point always. The SSID changes when it connects to the desired network as a client. After connected, the "I'm connected" SSID is active, no security and has a web server page that offers you to change settings. However, this page does nothing to your settings. I'd prefer to have no web server page on this SSID.
2) The device has an LED telling you that motion was sensed AND it was able to send a string to the port specified. If it can't send the string, the light will not flash. I thought I had a broken logic board but it came to life when I started the program that listened to the port.
3) I am a bit concerned about the cable coming loose or having intermittent connectivity over time. I placed electrical tape over the connector and leads to ensure they hold in place. One other option is to attach the power+ground leads to the screen terminal.
4) The 3 leads to the motion detector are 5V+ power, ground, data. If you alternate touching the data lead to the 5V and ground terminals, it simulates motion detected. Good to know for debugging.
5) I placed these boards in a utility box. Required a ~1 inch hole for the sensor and a slot for the power.

6) The board has a mini-B USB female connector which makes it easy to use an existing spare USB power source.
How am I using this? I am placing this in my single parent's kitchen to be alerted when no activity is seem in a time frame. I have a DD-WRT router that logs activity and a script that prepares a webpage of activity counts seen by hour. If no activity is seem between 6am-10:30am, it sends me an email alert. I might deploy a second sensor in the hallway to collect more info. If no activity, I give a call and make sure things are ok.
