Tasteful, well-designed and a good introduction to SMD

For Arduinoflake

I bought a few of these as a gift. SMD soldering looked a bit daunting so I opted for the ones with the chips already attached. I did the remaining SMD components myself with a normal soldering iron and left the non-SMD soldering for the new owners. Tweezers, extra soft flux and good illumination were the only extra things I used. It was easier than I thought but it takes time and care is needed not to lose the tiny components.

I don't have one but the large (around 20cm?) anglepoise-style illuminated magnifying lenses look ideal for this.

I think the LEDs are slightly dimmer when running from the CR2032 battery. USB power is fairly bright close up with all LEDs on.

Great board & Good Customer Service

For OpenTherm Gateway Arduino Shield

I wanted this board for trying it out against an HVAC, for which there is not default support in the library.
The seller was fast to answer my initial questions and somewhat slower to solve some later issue that arose.
In the end all got fixed and with some of my own tweaks to the library I can easily communicate with my HVAC.

It arrived quickly and very well protected in its packaging. The instructions provided are very clear with a photo to support it. Jiří's library available on GitHub greatly simplifies integration into my own application. Jiří answered my questions quickly. Product works fine with Wemos D1.

Very good product, worked fine
Used as a stack of an arduino uno, an ethernet shield, and OT gateway on top
added some parsing on interesting messages (it 1,5,11,16,24,25,26,48,49,56,57) and modified Serial.print() to server.print() to send messages through a telnet pipe
not simple to get in touch with seller using anonymous email sent by tindie store

Good opentherm gateway

For OpenTherm Gateway Arduino Shield

Product works as described, clean board with good indications and general documentation. My recommendation is to buy the kit, soldering SMD is tricky without experience and an error is too easy to make with possible dire results for the board (happened to me, not the fault of the author).
Software library was easy to adapt to my ESP32 (support will most likely be incorporated into next release). Responsive and helpful owner.
Documentation for testing needs extensions for 3.3 Volt case, most likely will be addressed after my feedback.

Great christmas tree decoration

For Arduinoflake

Had really fun soldering this kit together! There are two hard parts - the USB-to-Serial chip and USB micro connector. I had butchered the connector, but luckily had a spare one.
We put it on the top of the christmas tree and everyone commented, how nice it is.
I can highly recommend it!

The patterns are nice and the snake game is quite challenging :)

Perfect, WYSIWYG

For Arduinoflake

I hanged it in the window for Christmas. I would appreciate explanation of how to power it using AAA batteries. I know it's possible in theory, but don't know how, so I used usb cable, but it's a bit ugly :) I used the option to have it fully assembled, bc I'm lazy and don't have any tools anyway. I plan to try reprogramming it during long winter evenings. It was perfectly crafted I really like it. Thanks, Jirka!

Gateway shield works -also on wemos esp8266 !

For OpenTherm Gateway Arduino Shield

With some support of Jiri I managed to get the gateway up-and-running on an esp8266 wemos mini pro d1!

The advantage of the wemos in comparison with arduino is its low cost, size, speed, power usage and standard wifi functionality including an option to add an external antenna. ( e.g. https://www.hobbyelectronica.nl/product/wemos-d1-mini-pro/ )
To make this work I ordered a arduino proto board to click in the gateway shield and solder it to the wemos. Some small adaptions on the shield make it work on the 3.3V platform of the esp8266.

I managed to see every command the thermostat sends to the boiler and I can capture the feedback of the boiler.

My next steps are
- add display to wemos to see current state of the boiler, thermostat, and show connections are good.
- use the wifi link the data to my sql database running on my NAS (I know this works already)
- readout 2nd thermostat (on/off) via input and enable boiler via the opentherm
- get everything nicely in a box e.g. add 24V supply and nicely enclose it
- build a web-access to from outside enable boiler or readout temperature

- experiment further with opentherm commands
* e.g. make sure the thermostat always has the right date/time (via internet time server)
* add external temperature sensor
etc. etc.

If more people have interest, maybe Jiri will develop a shield that fits standard for Wemos ?
Anyhow this is a good product with good support and can be fun and useful to save energy costs!

Unique and Beautiful, and not just for winter

For Arduinoflake

Years ago I wrote a screensaver which generated snowflakes. It required a computer and monitor and changing the program to create different patterns required a lot of work....
Arduinoflake is really amazing. The integration of circuit board and display is wonderful. The touch interface makes is easy to select one of the stock algorithms, and the ISP makes it straightforward to add your own algorithms. There are two options for battery power.
The only thing I added was a way to hang it (a little hot glue and a cord).
As with most SMD, the soldering was a little finicky, but practice makes practiced. The PCB masking and some flux made assembly quick.
I recommend this as a great design and as a nice gift.

Arduinoflake worked perfect

After receiving the Arduinoflake I inserted a battery and then found the on/off switch. Worked like a charm. Emailed Jiri and he responded quickly and was very good with his explanations.

I love this very imaginative project.

For Arduinoflake

This was a great kit. Packaging and documentation was awesome with every part labeled in a unique way with step by step instructions. Even extra components included! I did look up what the interior of a LED looked like so I was sure which way they went. This was my first smd project. Man some of those smd's are tiny. Don't sneeze. It works great and I love the touch pad. I posted so my Christmas friends would see this.
