A couple of years ago I was looking for a good co2 sensor to monitor the air quality in my house. It also had to be able to connect to my home automation system. I couldn't find any and decided to make one myself. 20+ years of programming experience came in handy but I still had to learn a lot like CAD designing and 3D printing. After a couple of months and lots of trial and errors I created my first co2 sensor: the MoreSense MS-01. It soon became clear that other people were also interested so I started selling them in my home country, the Netherlands. Now, 4 years later, after selling many sensors, I want to expand my sales abroad. The sensors evolved over this time (also with a lot of input from the users) and have many more features. Also the overall quality and reliability improved a lot so I think I may say that the current sensors are just as good or even better than the major brands. But then for affordable prices and easy-to-use.
