Nice design, I have not tested its operation yet. I understand it probably needs further improvements in its electrical design and firmware. Durability might be questionable on how long the PCB lasts after several cycles of use. I would agree that separating the control section from the heating plate would be a good improvement. There are film heating elements that could be used instead of using PCB traces. I have one such heating element that is sandwiched between two thin aluminum plates which is controlled by a temperature controller and thermocouple. Problem with mine is it does not get hot enough. It uses 115 Vac for the heating element.
