Cute little project.

For Mr. Whiskers Kit

I ordered a couple of these kits to build with my boys, 5 and 7. They are of course a bit too young to be wielding a soldering iron, but they helped ID the parts and I explained how they all worked before having them hold them in the right spot so I could solder them on.

Being a pseudo SMD project, it's a bit tricky, but the kitty is so darn cute. Great little badge, turned out great!

For Billy Bones Kit

The only problem was determining which resistor was which based on color bands. Used an Ohm meter to confirm. Met all my expectations and Grandsons are enjoying them.

Very Nice Kit

For Space Invaders Inspired Soldering Kit

I really enjoyed building this one. Pretty easy to build and a nice version of Space invaders. The only thing I've found annoying about it is the volume There might be a way of turning it down a db or two but I cant find out how.

Another great noise synth from MadLab!

For Scuttlebut Kit

As an owner of MadLab's excellent Noise-X synth, I was beyond thrilled to find out about the Scuttlebutt. I mean, how much more minimalist could they get without sacrificing usability? The answer is: quite minimalist indeed.

First off, the documentation… I know this was designed for true beginners, but the addition of pictures was appreciated nonetheless. The 2nd page of operation instructions was clearly written, and walks through the how-to's with no questions unanswered.

To the unit itself, as I said up front, minimalist is the word. In fact, you could hear all the sounds it can offer in one sitting. That isn't to say those sounds couldn't be played through effects and then sampled to create something distinctly un-Scuttlebutt-y, but it does have its limits. The sequencer is similarly limited, but just messing around with stringing sounds together and then adjusting the playback speed CAN yield promising results. And again, post-effects can make it even more interesting.

All in all, this is a neat little device, so long as you understand its limits. Can't wait to see what MadLab pulls out next.

Excellent little kit

For The Phenomenal Levitating Ball Kit

Instructions are clear. All components included. Great little kit for anyone who can solder.
My teachers loved it and we'll be using it to demo both standing waves and ultrasound. Had to cut polystyrene packaging "beads" in half as it won't hold much mass.

What a fun kit! I started with six washers on one screw, and Billy would shake his arms nicely. But adding another six washers on another screw makes him fantastic! His head now moves so far and so fast that the eyes are blurry! Yes!

For The Phenomenal Levitating Ball Kit

Madlab has always been brilliant at documenting their projects, and this is no exception. Clear step by step instructions, plus all round (front and back views) of the completed product for you to check against.

The hardest part for me was slotting the transducer plates in due to pcb tolerances. A little bit of work with a nail file solved it, and this is also documented because they really do think of everything.

Everything is well labelled and straightforward to put together.

Worked first time, and I was so excited I put a video of it on the internet. Top tip: if you haven't got anything to hand to levitate, the foam the chips come in works well. I've successfully levitated dried cheese, bits of croutons, and lavender seeds. Feathers don't work for some reason!

10/10 would make again. I'm saving for the skellington next. Repeat customer for life. :)

Firstly it's big, 10.5cm wide, 5cm tall & 1.5cm thick (approx.).
Not only stroking it's head will make it meow, but by stroking the tail it will meow as well.
Instructions very easy to follow.

Great piece of kit

For Noise-X Kit

I'm a relative newcomer and still found this relatively easy to put together and its full of crazy sounds. Took a bit to get my head around how it works (with such a noisey synth its hard to know if its working as intended or if you've got a dodgy connection...) Also had a lot of fun figuring out the MIDI protocol and control system and making an FLStudio dashboard to control it!

Made Mr. Whiskers with my 9yo. She had never soldered and my skills were rusty. Instructions were easy to follow. Wore him to defcon this weekend and got lots of attention — made sure to let people know where I got him!

This thing RULES!

For Noise-X Kit

What fun! This is an incredible synth package that is easy to assemble (due to the included [or available online] documentation). Four LFOs (channels, if you will), with on-board reverb and flanger efx, give SO MANY sound options it's unreal!

Again, I cannot stress enough how easy-to-follow the included instuctions are! Even without photos, a few minutes prep (to verify included parts) is all that's needed--beyond soldering, obviously--to successfully assemble this kit.

As a novice [only my 2nd start-to-finish thru-hole synth kit], the Noise-X was both easy and fun to complete! And upon finish, the fun *truly* begins!

Would order from MadLab again!

Really nice kit

For Mr. Whiskers Kit

Very nice... will keep the cat lover in the family happy.

Only improvement would be the addition of an on/off switch rather than taking the battery out.

Thanks for the nice review.

It does have a sleep mode which kicks in after about 5 minutes and turns the LEDs off. The power consumption in sleep mode is pretty minimal. It wakes up again when touched.
