Feedback on MG011 kit

For MG011 Pseudo Random Number Gen designed for RC2014

Put this kit together over the weekend. Very easy to build, instructions were clear and easy to follow. Overall a nice addition to my system. Now I have a hardware-based random number generator. Great transaction and support overall.

For MG001 Seven Segment Display - Designed for RC2014

Purchased MG001 for my SC126. Communication w/ the seller was great. Kit arrived quickly and was packaged well. Putting the kit together was easy. I had to contact the seller a couple of times to have my questions answered; response was quick and detailed. The website with the documentation is thorough and helpful. Truly a great transaction. Exactly what I was looking for

For MG005 Speech Synthesiser - Designed for RC2014

Back in the 1980's, I read a computer magazine article about building your own speech synthesizer for the Commodore C-64 using the SPO256AL2 chip. I rushed off to Radio Shack and used all of my lawnmower money to pick one up. I still have it to this day, and I've bought another one as a backup, but I wasn't sure it was a real or fake chip (fake SPO256 chips are rampant on the online auction shops due to their popularity). I've wanted to relive those fun days when we used to prank call our girlfriends and make it ask if their refrigerator was running.

Last year, I attempted to build Scott Baker's version, but I couldn't work out the exact Bill of Materials and the one I assembled just spoke garbage with a lot of static. I was excited to find this kit on Tindie, and I ordered it as soon as I saw that it had good reviews.
The kit was easy to assemble, and the parts were clearly labeled. I had a few 3.12 MHz crystals in my collection from when I tried to make a similar board in the past, so I used one of those to get an "authentic" sound. I found them on Digi-Key, I think. The biggest advantage is that the SPO256AL2 chip was legitimate and worked as soon as I plugged it in and wrote the quick demo program.

Make sure to read all the documentation so you don't miss the jumper settings to make the demo code work.

Yet another fine module from Mr Geleé's Tech: the PCB and parts of superb quality and thanks to the few parts being used, the module is quickly and easily assembled. This module is a perfect for many different uses: as a status display, clock, memory monitor - you decide what you want to do with it. Data output is done using a single command (even from BASIC !!), a working BASIC code example is included in the well written documentation of the module. Money well spent!

Easy to build and works a treat

For MG014 Parallel Port Interface- Designed for RC2014

It's a nicely laid out board with plenty of room to put it together. The only unclear thing is the LED direction markings.

Having assembled it everything works and it is well documented with both example programs and clear documentation on how the port registers are mapped. This differs wildly from the IBM one in terms of bit order and inversion. The inverting differences are no big deal but the bit order one is a bit of a pain for some bidirectional devices that put data on the status lines in what on a PC is a nicely ordered 4bit value. Nothing a lookup table couldn't fix,

With a bit of hacking it's now supported in Fuzix for both printing and ZIP drives. It's driving my old ZIP-100 nicely.

Another fun and interesting board

For MG011 Pseudo Random Number Gen designed for RC2014

At first I wondered why you would have a hardware board generate pseudo numbers when you can do it via MBasic commands. The answer is just for the learning and fun of it. This is a great value little project. Documentation is top notch as usual. All the hardware is great quality. Delivery is fast. The board went together extremely easily and once I'd sorted the addressing, worked perfectly. I have the results going out to a small LCD display and some TIL311 retro displays.
I particularly like the fact that Mr Gelee's tech boards usually come with code examples in basic. This is another great board you can learn from.
Great stuff Mr Gelee, keep them coming.

A great upgrade

For MG003 32k Non Volatile RAM - Designed for RC2014

I really enjoy Mr Gelee's tech RC2014 boards. This non volatile ram is the best addition, in my view, to the basic RC2014. Its simple, is great value for money and works extremely well. I found the surface mount a little tricky although the board is now offered with a pre soldered chip for a small fee. Well worth it in my view. I've been using the board for many months cycling it on and off hundreds of times and it always delivers. I would love to see a 64k version.
Delivery was extremely quick and the documentation is very clear. I contacted Jerry, the creator of Mr Gelee's tech boards, with a small query and his prompt response and interest was excellent. if there is only one upgrade you buy for the basic RC2014, get this one.
Well done Mr Gelee, you nailed another 'upgrade'.

Nice and easy to use!

For MG001 Seven Segment Display - Designed for RC2014

Bought this one to use it as a status display on my RC2014 based bulletin board system ("RC-BOX"). Not very complicated to assemble but placing and soldering all those resistors properly took some time. IC sockets, capacitors and 7-segment modules were done very quickly after that. Using the module is very straight forward and will work with assembler, BASIC, C, PASCAL etc. out of the box.

The documentation includes all the information you need to successfully build and operate the module. Want a neat RC2014 clock or status display that is easy to use? Then this module is perfect for you!

P.S: shipping from UK to EU mainland took very, very long as my order was shipped a few weeks before new customs regulations came into effect. I suppose that for UK residents things will be much, much faster. Communication with the seller was exemplary all the time.

Needed to clean the PCB in order to get solder to adhere to some of the pads, but otherwise it was easy and straightforward to assemble and the instructions were good. The demo program worked first time and now I'm hooked writing software to translate text to allophones

Just what you need to bring your RC2014 to life!

This is a great kit, and one that I've been waiting for for a long time! It shipped quickly and went together easily. The documentation is easy to follow and the example program will get your RC2014 saying "Hello World" in no time at all. It is also a really good basis to make your RC2014 say anything else. Breaking words down in to their allophones can sometimes be a bit hit and miss, and are a little bit restrictive, so don't expect this 1980s technology to be reading the news in perfect Queens English any time soon! But it is a lot of fun. Talking of fun, How About A Nice Game Of Thermonuclear War?

Easy to put together and a lot of fun to play with.

For MG005 Speech Synthesiser - Designed for RC2014

I'm impressed - this kit is easy to put together (it took me about 30 minutes to solder everything). Once the soldering was checked, it worked first time. At the current price (including a SPO256-AL2 chip ) its pretty good value for money too.

Playing about with it brought me back to when I was a kid playing with the DK'Tronics speech synthesiser for the Amstrad CPC 464 - magic!

My only - very minor - criticism would be that the components weren't labeled and with older eyes, determining which resistors and capacitors were which involved an illuminated magnifying glass and the documentation. That said, it was hardly difficult.
