Really easy way to start receiving IR commands
For AJARemote - MQTT driven IR Blaster
I have a light show based on xLights, and want to add interactive elements this year. My thought was, if you could wave the infrared wand (like Kymera) at something and have it light up, change color, twinkle, etc., it would bring the kids great joy.
So, I got a couple of these AJARemotes for lab testing, and they were very easy to use. The instructions for setup were great, and I had them talking to the MQTT broker in only a few minutes. MQTT connects to xSchedule to trigger sequences, so my project is basically working... I just need to make the setup a little more elaborate (more props and behaviors) before deploying this winter. I will likely make a few adjustments to my AJARemote units for outdoor use, but this seems straightforward, as they are assembled in a manner that is convenient for tinkering.
All in all, a nifty little device, and I don't think I'd have gotten this project off the ground without it. Certainly not as easily. Would also add that this is a great value for the money... a lot of work went into design, documentation, etc., and of course there is a cost to the parts and time spent on assembly, so I think it's a great deal.
