Easy to assemble, and worked the first try!

For ESP8266 Wifi Module For RC2014

I'm enjoying this module, and allows access of the RC2014 remotely. The ESP-Link firmware creates an access point, that you simply connect to, and bring up it's configuration web page. From the configuration page, you can connect it to your internet router, In my case, I just set up a separate router for vintage systems, so they are all in one place.

Great Z80 System!

This kit is easy to assemble. You will learn a lot about how computers actually work with this kit. It's very versatile, and easy to build your own devices for this system. There is plenty of storage space on the CompactFlash card, and the I/O module allows you to interface with the real world. The dual clock module allows you to run the processor at high speed (~7Mhaz), and clock down the second serial port to communicate to slower devices. I'm enjoying the RC2014 very much.

Great quality sound card!

This sound card was easy to assemble, and the YM2149 was easy to obtain. The ROMWBW images come with a tune player (tune.com), and some sample tunes to get you started.

An excellent Z-80 starter kit

A great bundle of the cards needed to build a respectable Z-80 computer system. This is NOT a Heathkit style kit with instructions to walk you through the soldering of every resistor. You'll need to look at online web pages and apply a little thought as you put it together--for me, that was part of the fun!

Once assembled, old timers will recognize it as a spiritual successor to an S100 system. It's an open bus, and I'm already pondering what cards I can add to its open slots. Maybe an ESP32 one to provide Ethernet and Wifi? We'll see.

This is a great project for anyone using a CPM PC

For Universal Micro Keyboard

I made mine 1 row at a time after installing the CPU. I find it rewarding soldering in rows. I got 4 of these and have used diffrent switches to get a feel for what switches are the best. I like the small metal ball type the best. I will be uploading a 9600 baud version of the Arduino code for my Z80 Membership card.

Very pleased with my Homebrew Z80 computer kit

I bought the RC2014 Pro computer kit with a view to running CP/M in order to understand how a minimalist operating system is implemented and to see what it could do in practice. The kit arrived very promptly. Circuit boards were of excellent quality and all components were supplied. Soldering the board together was quite enjoyable, though I did find documentation (provided on the Internet) was a little less comprehensive that I would have liked. For example, I had to explore the Compact Flash storage module with a multimeter to decide which way around to fit the LED. This meant relying on the photographs of the completed boards to solve some of the issues of assembly.

The computer kit worked first time, and was happy to run BASIC. However I couldn't get it to load CP/M, despite best efforts of Google, and because of this I have not given the product five stars. Eventually, I replaced the included RAM and ROM boards with the single '512kROM 512kRam' module board and this solved all problems. I have had to computer kit running permanently for about a week and not discovered any faults or issues. There is plenty of Z80 software available on the net of good quality (e.g. for tracking household expenses I find SuperCalc less 'faff' to use than Excel).

I now have a platform to learn Z80 assembler and hopefully can go on to explore CP/M itself.

Very good product.

Card is using in my SC126 CP/M computer with only one change - as clock I use 7.3728 MHz from ACIA 68B50 via unused USER1 pin of RC2014. Building a using of this kit without any problem!

Nice kit, worked first time!

The RC2014 Pro is a nice kit. It took me a while going through all the permutations of kits (Mini, CP/M, etc) to settle on this version.
A couple of minor niggles, the LEDs on the backplane and CF module are very bright. I ended up going through a number of different resistor values to dim them before settling on 22k (yes, a big step up on the 330's that come with the kit). The process of soldering, then removing the resistors is a little tricky and I ended up damaging one of the pads. I'd recommend trying a couple different resistor values before soldering them in place.
It would also be nice if the kit came with a couple extra 20 pin sockets so more of the slots can be the extended version from day one.

This single card gave my RC2014 a lot more functionallity

For Pageable ROM Module for RC2014 Homebrew Computer

I bought the PCB only and it's a high quality PCB that's a pleasure to solder. It took some careful reading to figure out how to jumper the card, but all the information was available on the RC2014 webpage. The page describing how to decode the ROM labels and the table of how to jumper the Pageable ROM module was all I needed in the end.

Before getting this card I was using the 8 kB Small Computer Monitor only, with this module I can use the 16 kB version of SCM which includes commands to run BASIC or load CP/M.

Super happy with the extended capability and interoperability with the 64 kB RAM module :)

Excellent easy project with great documentation

For RC2014 Dual Clock Module

I like Mr Gelee's Tech RC2014 projects. I had an initial snag which was quickly sorted out with the help of Jerry. The kit is very complete and the PCB is a good quality. Instructions are very clear and there is included sample code in Basic. I struggle so much with machine code which is why I look to projects like this. My intention was always to send the time out to my LCD display, which I have now achieved, all in Basic.
Well done Mr Gelee. I have the Speech Synthesiser kit next which I'm very much looking forward to working on and having a 'Speaking Clock'.
I highly recommend this kit.

For RC2014 ZED - Homebrew Z80 Computer Kit

Having experienced the original kit, I knew what I was in store for. Despite this fact, the expanded capabilities of the pro’s extended bus and additional included modules has blown me away.

I have been able to confirm that the AT28 series works fine in the RAM module. Just pull the write enable line high for your chip using the included jumpers.

I was able to burn stock CollapseOS onto free space in the supplied ROM and boot into it with 56k of RAM simply by adjusting supplied jumpers. The system’s design makes it exceedingly easy to use your own firmware.

It’s a long build. Take your time and take breaks. The included header pins only cover enabling portions of the extended bus. If you want access to the full extended bus on every slot, have your own headers on hand.

Nice set.

Not a bad set, but there are a few nuances. There was no assembly documentation in the package, but it is on the seller's website. There were about 10 badly bent contacts on the memory chip. I thought they would not go to the outlet after straightening, but it seemed to work out. The offered USB CDC Serial Adapter worked without issue on Windows and Ubuntu. The SIO/2 Dual Clock module started operating at 7.3728 MHz after changing the reset circuit of the Dual Clock module resistor R1 to 1 kΩ and capacitor C1 to 4.7 μF.

Great way to untether your RC2014

For ESP8266 Wifi Module For RC2014

This module has the great component quality of the other RC2014 developer’s kits. The idea of linking to the RC2014 over WiFi is a great way to uncouple your RC2014 from your PC/MAC/Linux machine, with communication between the RC2014’s console interface and your chosen terminal software working well. I had no problems assembling the kit: the ESP8266 module needs a little care during soldering but if you’ve assembled other RC2014 modules, especially the CF module, then it’s a cinch!

In use, I had no problems setting up the WiFi connection to my router and console command send and reply was just as good as using the Serial interface (via a USB adapter). Initially, though, I had problems with file transfers to/from the RC2014; these turned out to be due to the WiFi configuration in the ESP8266 which had it responding to every ping/beacon put out by my router and that of other routers in the neighbourhood. Once I’d corrected the configuration, it worked flawlessly.

Really simple assembly instructions included. I was missing the 100uF capacitor (it happens even with the best kits!) but had plenty of my own, so no problem with assembly!

I built the RomWBW module using parts I sourced myself. I did all the research necessary before I purchased the parts. All the chips I used are HCT types. Why they need to of this type only was a little difficult to understand why but after some research it all started to make sense. The kit is very easy to assemble and I programed the flash rom myself using a TL866II programmer.

YM2149 Sound - Brilliant

I built my RC2014 Pro kit and went on to upgraded it to the RomWBW V3.1 to develop my skills further. There has been some great development work done on the original RC2014 design by other developers that pushes the kit to new levels. You can add further boards such as the Real Time Clock, Sound card, 8bit Input & Output etc all available on Spencer's store.
I decided that I wanted to try and do my own ROM using a TL866II Pro eprom programmer. If successful, move on to start building my own ROM files using the Small Computer Workshop, although that may be a little way off just yet but the ROM I programmed worked first time. All those extra additions worked perfectly, giving me an excellent Z80 RomWBW system which displays the date, time etc and plays .PT3 sound files just like the ZX Spectrum.
You do however need to be prepared to do some research as to how these things work which at the end of the day is what this kit is all about. All the kits came with high quality PCB's making soldering a breeze. I have really enjoyed building these kits

Easy to Build and an Excellent Mass Storage Unit

For Backplane 5 for RC2014 - Z80 Homebrew Computer

Ordered with the CF socket pre-installed, this unit was assembled in quick order. Performance on the SC126 Z180 computer is superb. The board itself has one less row of contacts than the expansion bus so be careful to "index" it in place with the [Pin1] marker.

Easy to solder and the perfect size for a minimal RC2014!

I realized that I had accumulated enough modules from updating and expanding my RC2014 over the years that I could build a second tiny RC2014, and this backplane was the perfect fit! The resulting system looks really neat and sits perfectly next to any laptop and/or keyboard! :)

The PCB is easy to solder and doesn't require a manual, because the PCB has clear component markings showing the value and orientation of each component.

For Prototype PCB for RC2014 Classic II

I bought one of these to move a circuit I've made from a boring green perfboard onto a nicer blue PCB fit for a RC2014. I'm really happy with the quality of the PCB, which has always been great! I also really like that 5V and GND is marked clearly on the PCB, along with pin 1. The two power rails are great too! :)
