Cool project
For 8 Bit WiFi Visualizer
Quite a good project to start practicing smd hand soldering, it have a good variety of different components that need different ways to solder it properly (or yolo it with a conical tip I guess). There are a few thinks that I would liked to see, like been able to program it directly with usb, have a way to use the free gpio pins that are not doing anything (maybe a 2 color led to know when is in normal operation or programing mode), but the great thing is that is open hardware so if you really want it you can add it. As for the documentation, is great, there is everything you need to get started, there a few things that would be nice to see, like it mention is possible to program it with an arduino uno but that's it, it doesn't say how and that you would need to lower the voltage to 3.3V so you don't burn the module but nothing that google doesn't fix. In general, is a very solid project so you can focus on building projects on top of it. I'm thinking on using it to report if a device is connected to my lan, that way I know if someone is home or if my server is down. FYI, it also looks cool as decoration for your desktop.
This is not related with the product itself but I guess is worth mention, the package arrive VERY beat up, all components are fine but the box was a mess, pretty sure this have more to do with the shipping company, it have that reputation, so I highly recommend to use tracking, I would actually prefer to pay a bit more to ship with another company but it arrive just fine so I guess that's that.
