My name is Zach Hipps and I live in Maryland in the United States. I've been a maker since I was little. I remember my dad taking me down to Radio Shack and letting me buy a battery, some alligator cables, some light bulbs etc. I spent hours building different circuits with these simple components. When I got to middle school I joined the vocational industrial club of America (VICA) where I was mentored by a great teacher named Mr. Fox. He helped me learn about solar energy and engineering design. In 2002 I started high school where I was introduced to the engineering club. We built a solar powered water craft which I was asked to pilot in the state-wide race. I got to learn about high wattage DC motors, speed controllers, and charging batteries using the power of the sun. In early 2011 I picked up the hobby again around the same time I went back to finish college. I was studying mechanical engineering at the time, but I would come home and work on electronics. It was around this time that I discovered the Arduino platform and really got hooked. A couple years later I learned about the Raspberry Pi and Linux. Since then I've built electronics for cnc machines, quadcopters, robotics, home automation, and many other projects. I've gained professional experience working with solar energy, hybrid processors running Android and Linux, and have done quite a bit of circuit board design. In 2016 I graduated with a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland. I really love helping others learn about STEM topics and firmly believe that there is no such thing as a dumb question. I try support community learning and the open source movement as much as I can.
