Pretty cool!

For W65C816SXB

Great customer service and communication. When I had trouble finding documentation, it was provided promptly. The board is nice, a bit advanced to use, but if you're buying it you know what you're doing.

This board should serve me well for some decades.

Fun board with a monitor in ROM

For MENSCH™ Microcomputer

Bought this board some years ago and never got around to use it until now, and I've had great fun this weekend translating assembler into OP-codes by hand and entering it into the MENSCH's memory and blinking the onboard LEDs. I'm really excited to wire up some RAM and peripherals to this board! It's super cheap and fun way to get into 6502 assembler and beyond!

Wonderful Board, wonderful CPU

For W65C816SXB

I like 6502 since I was a child.
First I had a PET to make my first steps in coding.
Later a C64 as all Nerds in my age.

This 65816 is a wonderful CPU!
I never came in touch with it.
Surely as user while playing SNES games.
But I was not aware of the Hardware inside the SNES …

I found this book about 65816 programming and I knew it would be a nice activity.
Searching for a board with 65816 CPU I found this WDC W65C816SXB.
It is Retro, but not too Retro with ist USB connector, big RAM and FLASH.

A nice OS, serial Connection to my PC, - it is perfect for me.
WDC offers a toolchain including Assembler and C Compiler.
Many years ago I was dreaming about such a good development environment!!

It is very funny to code for this 65816 and making small accessories for ist IO ports.
Surely, a modern STM32 or a AVR controller does same, but for me it is a good feeling of my youth.
I'am happy with this board!

bad product with numerous bugs

For W65C816SXB

- lack of documentation on the software
- the development system is awful
- many 404 pages on the web page
- defect on the reset button
- bug in emulation mode (does not wrap)
- w65c51 unusable (bugged)

the following sequence:
LDA #$FF
STA $80
STA $81
LDY #$02
LDA ($80),Y

will read at address: 01:0001 instead of 00:0001
I tried to find a fix on a board I designed...
my board load the page latch only if E = 0
and load $00 if E = 1
apparently it fix the problem but I'm not sure if there is not
side effects with my fix...

no information coming from Western Design Center about this bug
very limited information about the w65c51 bugs
