What is it?

This is a handy and compact HAT (PiZero form factor) that provide all hardware needed to drive all different types of addressable LEDs (strips, strands or panels).

Why did you make it?

A friend of mine was creating his setup with Hyperion (GitHub Link) to simulate Ambilight with his TV; I saw the messy wiring and decide to design a proper hat that will contain all components/connectors needed to avoid all those "spaghetti-wires". This has been tested with PiZeroW and Pi3b+ and different type of LEDs; it can handle both 3 wires and 4 wires type.

What makes it special?

All needed hardware is on board including LLS (low level shift) and adequate capacitors to avoid voltage feed issues. DATA pin can be selected via proper jumper as GPIO10, GPIO13 or GPIO18, while CLOCK pin (used for 4 wires LEDs) is assigned to GPIO11. If your LEDs are powered with 5V you have an handy jumper to feed thoase 5V to the PI, so you will not need an additional power supply via microUSB (for 12V LEDs this is still required); if the HAT will have success and many requests I may consider to have a 12V version with stepdown included so to power the Raspberry as well in this case.

Perfect for Hyperion

A well-designed board that I was able to get up and running in no time. The ability to share LED power with the Pi is a great touch, allowing higher-density setups to use a single power source. I particularly like the way everything is clearly labeled.
I used the hat on both a Pi 3B+ and a Zero W powering 3 metres of APA-102/144 colour LEDs using a 5v/4a power supply and it worked beautifully. The only setup needed was to add a jumper to the power-Pi bridge, move the GPIO jumper to MOSI (for APA102) and connect the power and LEDs.
So glad I purchased two. Highly recommended for anyone using a Pi for Hyperion or other LED projects.
