Review of the Better Rotary Encoder
For Improved mountable rotary encoder breakout
This encoder board really does the trick. It works precisely as described and I'm quite impressed with it. The board is very solid, with well-placed mounting holes centered on the encoder to reduce shear on the mounting, and compact enough to take up very little space in your enclosure. Small and sturdy. I opted to get the add-on rotary encoder itself as well, the encoder was of very high mechanical quality, definitely not provided by the lowest bidder.
While I was learning the best way to integrate the encoder into my project, I decided test it with my oscilloscope. The transitions are quite square, with no appreciable noise. All the noise in my tests came from my own power supply. It works much better than a mechanical rotary encoder alone ever could. I attempted to induce some bounce or rough transitions by rotating the encoder various ways, it never did bounce or give a rough transition.
I had the opportunity to contact the owner as I had some initial difficulties with what turned out to be my assembly and he was immediately available for support, helping me through the troubleshooting like a pro! Very available, very knowledgeable, usually the same day reply, and quite pleasant to work with.
If you are in the market for an encoder and don't want the hassle that can come with them, this improved rotary encoder board will greatly ease the integration into your project.
