I love this thing...only wish i would have bought 2 channel

For dAISy AIS Receiver

This Daisy uses multiplexing to serve the 2 channels. They have other units that use 2 simultaneously. I am very happy with the after sales support. I am also happy with the range I am getting since adding a couple elements to my antenna. I have 2 discones but they can't touch a cophased set of dual folded dipoles. My range has gone up a huge amount. They appear to have a low radiation angle which helps it reach out there.

This is simple and sweet and it works. Use AISDispatcher and it makes it a cake walk to put multiple feeds from one dispatcher. I am feeding AIS, Vesselfinder, Myshiptracking, Fleetmon, and MarineTraffic. It doesn't use a lot of bandwidth and its reliable enough to put on a boat.

The dAISy hat itself is a great option to have. It went smoothly with no issues, though I do wish there were an option for an add-on case fan or shim option for plugging one in. I'm not sure if using a readily-available one would cause alignment issues with the designed case though. Otherwise, no complaints there.

The case for the dASIy HAT does the job almost perfectly. The new Pi 4 case had no assembly instructions and the documentation online was for the older 3 instead, but it wasn't too hard to figure out. It goes together very similar to the 3 case, so not a big deal there. The only issue I had at all is that the mini HDMI cable supplied with my Pi 4 kit doesn't fully seat into the connector on the Pi board due to the thickness of the case wall, and small opening for the connector. This might be easily solved with another cable, or by enlarging the opening. Otherwise, everything else is great. Plenty of access for the card, as well as dual venting - top and bottom - for airflow. So far, extremely pleased with the ease of assembly and build quality!

Before placing the order I sent a message to Adrian asking him if he could install Navionics app on his phone and make sure it would work, and what the configuration would have to be. The next day he responded with the positive results. I was impressed! I placed the order and received the unit fast. I also ordered a WiFi module from Amazon and an antenna. When I got all the pieces I had some troubles with the configuration. I asked Adrian for help and on a phone call he walked me through the process, step-by-step and it worked perfectly. I think this is the most affordable way to have AIS on Navionics App. A great solution at super low cost!

Very happy, great range

For dAISy HAT - AIS Receiver for Raspberry Pi

I bought this hat to replace a somewhat unreliable RTL-SDR as an AIS station (on land).

It's been running continuously for 2 weeks now, and picks up about 20% more messages than the RTL with an outdoor VHF antenna.

Shipping to NZ was much more efficient than expected, it was quite a nice surprise when it arrived after just a few days.

Very happy with this product, especially for the price!

I had a little difficulty interpreting the command string required to input in the terminal app to identify the daisy2+ identifier. Adrian, provided amazing support identifying what I was doing wrong and walking me through the process required to get everything up and running. Responding usually within hours.
The product is excellent I certainly recommend purchasing.

My purpose for dAISy Hat was to set up a feed for AISHUB, the open data AIS source. I used their dedicated distribution, rPiAIS, that contains all the software to receive, process, and monitor AIS data. The combination of this distribution and dAISy worked straight away, also thanks to the clear configuration documentation. The whole system was operational in less than a day and the performance is good. Shipping took more than two week, mainly due to Dutch customs.

Great product

. Worked straight out of the box, picked up ships as far away as 16nm, using a telescopic emergency vhf antenna taped to the boathook, about 3m above the water, so I expect very good range when it is properly installed with a good antenna.

I have experience with a comparable product from Adrian's competitor in this segment of the AIS market, and the operation of the product plus his rapid communication beats them hands down.

I would just like to share my thoughts on your dAISy AIS receiver. I have now had some time to play with it and have found it to be very good. It was easy to set up, just follow the instructions and you can't go wrong. I also bought a WiFi transmitter from Ali Express for a few dollars which also works well. As I have no experience with other AIS receivers I can't compare its functionality but I have been using it with Open CPN and it works well on my laptop, android tablet and Samsung phone. It seems to acquire targets fastest on my phone. Thanks for a very nice product at an affordable price.

I found the HAT to be well documented my only wish was that the i2c and 2nd serial had their pins pre soldered (I hate soldering small things)

But everything went smoothly for my project and I will probably be building another OpenPlotter for a mate.

ps. along with i2c and 2nd Serial, why not also add the 2x10 male pins on top of the HAT so that users can stack HATs on top of the current HAT.

Excellent product

For dAISy AIS Receiver

I am really happy with this tiny little AIS receiver. There is only one point which could be improved: I have written a software which automatically detects connected receivers like GPS, AIS etc. independent of port and baudrate. This is easy with GPS because GPS sends every second a message even if no satellites are in view. Unfortunately dAISy does not send any message when no AIS message is received. It would be much easier to detect the dAISy port, if at least a state message would be send every 5 seconds. Currently I detect dAISy by sending an ESC character to the available ports to get an answer. But this is not a very safe method because I have to ensure to reset dAISy to receive mode.
Nevertheless an excellent product!

Excellent Value for money I have only had it installed for a few days and have found it works just as expected through an ariel splitter. The only area that I haven't tested properly yet is the bluetooth function as the module I purchased seperately appears to have pins in a differen't sequence to the output on the Daisy. I will investigate further when I get the time. In the meantime the hardwired outlets to computer and plotter are all I need and working well.

Note, that serial pin connections are typically labelled from the perspective of the device. TX on dAISy denotes, that data is transmitted from this pin. RX on the Bluetooth module indicates, that it expects to receive data on that pin. Therefore RX/TX need to be crossed when connecting two devices, i.e. connect dAISy TX to Bluetooth RX, and dAISy RX to Bluetooth TX.

I bought the daisy 2+ on a recommend from a friend who is very satisfied with his. my more techie friend additionally reported excellent guidance from Adrian on tech issues.
Unfortunately I ended up not being able to use the device. I decided instead to install an AIS B transponder which Adrian does not carry.

Adrian immediately responded, i returned the daisy to him and he refunded my money right away. you can feel comfortable doing business with Adrian.

A fantastic little device!!

Connected device to my laptop, and fitted a small tuned aerial from London Chartplotters to the dAISy. I stuck the aerial on the sprayhood of the boat. It was a simple configure to set up the usb port on Polar Navy software..... Hey Presto!! Out in the Solent 5NM range... loads of ships, ferrys etc all over the chart!! Weĺl done Adrian and thanks to Steve for advice. I fully endorse this product.

Good and easy to install!

I bought this product in order to function as a stand-alone AIS receiver, by using Wifi and a tablet. I ordered a Wifi module as suggested in the documentation, which arrived a few days after the dAISy. Installation of the dAISy was very easy: slide in the Wifi module, power the module from the USB on board, connect a VHF antenna and ready! The biggest problem was finding an appropriate app on the tablet or iPad that could plot the data without using charts, in other words, as a sort of radar. On the tablet, I installed OpenCPN (without charts; free); it can show the position of your ship in the center of the screen and installation is very easy. On the iPad, I installed "AIS Radar" (€7,99), which appears to be the only app available for the iPad if you want to plot the data on a radar-like screen. Installation was easy and it functions well. Both tablets use their internal GPS (you have to enter that in the settings of the app). With the VHF antenna in the mast, I received AIS signals up to more than 24 km distance. With a VHF antenna at 3 m height, reception was up to about 12 miles, which I think is quite good! Overall, the value for money of this product is very good, even with shipping to Europe and taxes. Commercial products are about 3 times more expensive!

The only thing that must be taken into account is the OpenCPN version, since from 3.2.0, it is more complicated to configure ports and plugins.

Great, inexpensive device

For dAISy 2+ dual-channel AIS Receiver with NMEA 0183

Bought this to replace a device made in Uk that was enclosed in a cheesy thin plastic case that broke from the weight/pressure of antenna connection and shorted out. To be fair had I been aware of the thinness of the plastic I would have treated it like China. This device is encased in an aluminum housing that you could step on with no adverse effect. The best part is for $5 you can add a wireless card and have the functionality of a $300 unit! Those are all the pluses of this gem. My wish list would be to have the visual CPA that the English unit had as in a busy harbor visual information allows for quicker assessment of the big boys that are a danger to my punny craft.

Awesome device in such a small package!

For dAISy AIS Receiver

Connected this little baby to a old magnetic cell antenna, a FME to BNC coupler, the power and hooked it up to a Macbook running OpenCPN. Followed the directions to open a port, and Presto! Up and running in a matter of minutes.

Took it to work on a commercial vessel and used it to keep an eye on things while other mates were on the bridge.

I was so impressed with it that I showed it to others and they placed their orders.

Tested in my home. Received signals from boats up to 25 Nm. Used a good VHF antenna. Very pleased with the product.
Here in Norway there are lots of mountains, and I received signals from ships that were behind high mountains too.

Does just what it is supposed to

For dAISy 2+ dual-channel AIS Receiver with NMEA 0183

Worked great straight out of the box. Receiver is sensitive enough to pick up coded messages from 92nm away (OK I've got a good antenna, but the unit still needs to be low noise to be able to pick out the digital messages). Windows 10 and OpenCPN worked without a hitch. One thing you might find is that if you use the item plugged into a multiplexer powered only from the PC you might run out of power - works great on its own USB port, with external power or if the multiplexer has external power. Note this is not a fault on the DaisY, just something you might come across.

Shipping and enthusiasm from the suppliers was great.

So easy to run

I received the Daisy 2+, made a basic antenna (piece of wire abt 40 cm long ) conected to my tablet via OTG running OpenCPN and .....Thats all!!
All the ships in Cadiz bay (Spain) were there.
I had previously the Daisy 1 which also performs very well.
On the boat I will fit the Daisy 1 as the power consumption is so low.... although Daisy 2+ is low power consumption Daisy 1 is less than half.
I dont care very much to have a very long range reception on board, so Daisy 1 is my preferred option for the boat.
Now I want to connect Daisy 1 to my nmea network so I ordered the RS422 adapter but found is sold!!
I will wait for it!

I am a marine roboticist and we have used this board to build portable AIS receivers (powerbank + raspberry pi 0 w) that we can bring with us on small vessels / vans to help us monitoring traffic around autonomous underwater vehicles.
