Great product
For Hot Plate
The bottom line here is that this does what it says on the tin. The design is brilliant and it really is open source. I'm happy to have paid the designer for a kit!
Some things to be aware of:
1. It does not include instructions on how to assemble it. I was concerned at first, but quickly realized it's pretty obvious how to put it together
2. The unit does not come with a power supply. I did not realize this, but I happened to have one of the correct voltage, barrel plug size, polarity and a sufficient amperage, so it worked out OK for me. Also, the description says this right up at the top, so it's on me for missing this point.
3. The hot plate smokes sometimes, which makes me nervous, but I've used it several times now and it's clearly not burning out anything or affecting its performance
The only thing that I'd like is the option for a larger plate. The boards I commonly work with are about 6cm x 8cm so they don't fit on the existing hot plate. I've found angles that avoid the screws (which would prevent it from lying flat) so I can do the corners of the board, which is sufficient for my current project.
