A Great kit that's fun to build!

A Great kit that's fun to build! The board is well designed, clearly labeled, and easy to assemble. The documentation is excellent and the YouTube video is a step-by-step explanation of the entire build process . The kit does not contain sockets for all chips. I know its not necessary for all chips to be socketed, but when I'm doing a build I like to socket everything. This added a days delay in my build as I didn't realize how low on 20 pin sockets I was and had to order from Amazon. The R6501Q has double layers of pins and the instructions specifically recommend not socketing this chip. This was difficult for me to adhere too, but in the end I decided to follow that recommendation. After completing the build it booted right up (after changing my serial port speed to 4800 which is mentioned in the video but I missed it the first time).

An interesting project and a great kit!

For Glitch Works R6501Q/R6511Q Single Board Computer

This is a great little kit with an unusual processor. I started on the 6502 back in 1980 (summer before my senior year in highschool with an OSI C1P), so the 65xx processors have a special place for me. PROS: An interesting processor to play with, Ports B and D are brought out to tinker with, worked out of the gate. The CONS are minor: the packing let things rattle around an a few of the chips had minor bends to pens from handling, the manual assumes a certain level of experience (for example, polarity for C4-C8 isn't clear unless you're used to the square pad being "positive" and Pin 1 of the resistor pack is marked with a dot). With the limitations of the processor, you can't port a lot of 6502 software straight over, but that's half the fun and it will be interesting to see just what it's possible to get going on it. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to someone interested in the 65xx processor family and who has done a bit of building. Thanks! --Jim W4JBM

Excellent kit and documentation!

For Glitch Works R6501Q/R6511Q Single Board Computer

This is a great example of a kit done well. A lot of thought has clearly gone into the board design, packaging and instructions to make assembly go smoothly. I built mine in about 90 minutes, including troubleshooting to find the one pad that I forgot to solder that prevented it from booting on my first attempt. If you've never built a computer from the PCB up before, this one makes for a solid start!

Simple and effective

For GW-1687-5 Dallas DS1687-5 Maintainable Replacement

This replacement RTC unit works well. I couldn't ask for more. This will be much easier for long term maintenance & allow battery-less storage.

Using more modern storage with an OLD XT couldn't be easier

For Glitch Works XT-IDE rev 4B

Almost 2 years have passed since installing the XT-IDE in my IBM 5155 with the slot-8 module. It still works exactly as intended with zero issues. This is definitely the best option for upgrading an XT's storage. Booting from compact flash cards makes the XT about as fast as you can get it. A 256MB card is more than enough for my purposes. Component suppliers for the bits that make up the XT-IDE can be painfully slow though. Keep that in mind when ordering as this will extend the lead time.

Gave up on it

For Reproduction Solid State Music IO-2 S-100 Board

The board is not bad although some of the traces are very, very close to each other. The problem is the SSM documentation which consist of a bunch of hand-scratched notes and a few clips from data books. It's more of an experimenter's board. For a serial interface, most of the traces are missing, and wire-wrapping or soldering the connections quickly gets to be a mess. In the end, however, it was the lousy vintage documentation that killed it for me.

The 5.25" floppy disks arrived on time. They all format properly, no bad sectors. Unfortunately the labels supplied don't stick very well, but tape or glue solves that problem. Thanks!

Nice product to revive old computers

For GW-12887-1 Dallas DS12887 RTC Replacement Module

Installed in a Commodore PC 30-III. This one actually had a DS1287 which had to be de-soldered from the motherboard, and replaced with a socket. Works as expected afterwards with this module, remembering the clock and CMOS settings.

Excellent product

For Glitch Works XT-IDE rev 4B

Very high quality kit, easy to assemble, but you'll have to dig around on the website(s) to find instructions and information. I wish they would put everything in one place, clearly labeled. The board works perfectly. I'm using it in a PT68K-2, which is an Motorola 68000 CPU motherboard in a PC/AT case. Of course the XT-IDE IBM PC BIOS is useless in a 68K machine, so I'm writing my own hard disk drivers in 68K assembly language. It's slow going, but so far, so good, and the XT-IDE board is working just fine. I have not tried it in my PC/XT clone yet...

I love this Kit best price and great fun to make yourself

The Kit is Full with All IC's in package DIP easy to solder and assembly. The PCI Board has label (silkscreen) to identify all parts IC's. The rest of parts are in small package include capacitors, resistors,LED and other. I like it! I hope that works fine, i don't assembly yet.

Works like a charm

For Glitch Works XT-IDE rev 4B

I use this controller in my older 8088 pc from Philips. The soldering part was fun and the installation very easy.

I did a test with my older 1.6 gig harddisk and it work like a charm. Even my older seagate 40mb at ide works.

Cf cards however is a bit more hassle, you need the proper adapter or it wont show after a reboot (crtl-alt-del) and then you are stuk on waiting. And let's face it, there a so many different cf types, so a few not working won't matter.

Great product, good value!

I would love to see more l
products like this. Maybe an Adlib card for those "Commander Keen" games :-), sound blaster is way to new :-D

Nicely made replacement for the Dallas chips, worked great!

I installed this in a vintage DEC AlphaServer 1000a 5/333 in place of the original Dallas 1287.
It seems to be working fine, caused no errors, and the computer holds settings during power off and unplug.

A very well designed product and a fantastic improvement for my Heathkit H-150 IBM PC compatible. The boot code allows booting from either floppy or the hard drive. I was able to partition the hard drive under MS-DOS 3. The speed difference between my IDE drive and the original Seagate ST-225 is amazing.

The XT-IDE arrived quickly and the price is more than fair. Some documentation would be nice as it would save setup time. email support was reasonably responsive.

Works Well

Took quite a while to ship and was missing some parts, unfortunately I never got a response back on the missing parts but was easy enough to source them locally. Other than that it works well and does the job. No documentation but the board is clearly marked with what need to go where.

The best product that I bought over the past 2 years

I really do recommend the product and also the seller which whom the communication was very good.
The kit once assembled is working as it should, no surprise. What a dream to be able to hooked up an IDE HDD to my old XT computer.
The kit is quite easy to assemble as long as you have a minimum of experience in welding.
I've got no documentation with the kit but it is easily to fin on the web. Again, a minimum of good sense is required.
So one word for me : PERFECT
And thank you to still develop such a device nowadays.
