It was a bit annoying to get started because the 6 pin interface on the Serial UPDI didn't match the 3 pin UPDI programming header of my target board. I didn't have any double female Dupont cables, and the male to male cables kept on falling out of the header holes, so I had to solder female-to-male cables to the 3-pin UPDI header.

Usage with Arduino IDE is great, but the amount of research needed to get it to work with PlatformIO is rather tragic. But in the end it all works.

I also tried out the UART function with a Linux development board. It works but keeps on disconnecting the COM port at a high baud rate of 1500000 probably because of the CH340 chip.

Hi Honver, and thank you for the review!

It's great to hear that the SerialUPDI works fine with Arduino IDE, but I'm sorry to hear that it was difficult to get it working with PlatformIO.
There is a PlatformIO template for SerialUPDI over at the MegaCoreX Arduino repo, but it may be a bit hidden. I'd love to hear from you if you have a suggestion on how the PlatformIO documentation could be improved!

Regarding the pinout, Both the 3 and 6-pin headers have their pros and cons. I decided to stick with the typical 6-pin pinout because this is directly compatible with official Microchip programmers. The PICkit 4 and the MPLAB SNAP programmers also provide a virtual COM port, so with the right connection the experience will be very similar to a SerialUPDI.

Hi!
It depends on what programmer you're using to bootload the ATmega644P. if You're using USBasp you select "USBasp" in the programmer menu. If you don't have a dedicated programmer you can load the Arduino as ISP sketch by following the guide over at Arduino.cc

Hello tindie team,

first of all the board is really that one what I was looking for since long. As I am still not so familar with MCUs I really missed some documentation and/or example for test, especially I would appreciate to know how to use the HVPP connector (I know what it is for). For sure, there are a lot of test routines available which could be adapted from Arduino environment - and there are also a lot of information to be downloaded from your Web site.
Having this board now for some weeks I still feel that I have not enough practice to get almost the maximum from it even I come closer to it day by day. Therefore, I will keep the board for later times and I am sure I will got it.
As the board is without a spot, I am still the mind that it was a good idea to buy this!
