Very interesting board, but NO documentation..

For ESP-RFID Relay Blue Board

Very interesting board, but NO documentation neither on Github nor on Tindie.

Not clear how to connect RC522. No GPIO-IONumber assignment to find.

Weak WIFI authentication! Only WPA1 available. So I currently cannot connect it to our company network as we require WPA3.

amazing hardware, poor software and documentation

For ESP-RFID Relay Blue Board

The hardware you are able to buy here is amazing! The case screws where too short in my package and I had to use longer ones. But all together the hardware is working really well.

The software is buggy, a little bit old, unstructured and confusing. For example you have to disconnect the power supply after changinng the wireless mode. Without you will get lots of trouble.
But, thats okay... I thought. I decided to just use an other ESP32 software (Tasmota https://tasmota.github.io/docs/). The main idea was not so bad. But it was a little bit difficult to get a usefull documentation of this hardware. It was possible with a lot guessing and trying... Could be documented much better!

ESP-RFID Relay Board works great, saves all the hassle of programing an Arduino to get your RFID projects going. I also want to thank AdvanceIT for his support and communication. I will definitely be ordering again when I need another board.

Nice board, but the documentation isn’t great

For ESP-RFID Relay Blue Board

This board is really great, I just found that there should be more gnd to avoir having to screw a bunch of cables into the same screw terminal.

Also the documentation is really lacking. And the software from the official git repo is missing features (like the ability to change the type of reader) I ended up making my own firmware.

If you are familiar with programming your own MCU you can go for this board (there is a handy serial header to flash it and also reset and flash button)

After my order in mid-December, the standard shipping took 4.5 weeks. The shipping price was a bit high for a padded envelope, compared to other dealers and shipping companies. For this The 'ESP-RFID Relay Blue Board' was delivered with the esp-rfid software version 1.3.3 and could therefore be put into operation immediately.
* Product documentation:
The documentation for the 'Relay Blue Board' could be a bit more detailed to make it a bit easier for different customers and possible non-experts. I see the following potential for improvement in the description and documentation. Although everything is available somewhere, my wish would be to find everything in one documentation (no matter if pdf or online description). Attached are some pointers for possible improvements ...
* Product Description / Documentation:
The documentation (2 page pdf document) should be expanded to include important product data (input voltage range, AC/DC, output switching power, etc.) and initial installation and configuration topics, similar to the 1st relay board, this could also be included on the website
* Extended Technical Documentation (Github):
Gerber data and BOM are available on github, a schematic is missing, would be helpful for own adjustments, extensions or possible repairs
a wiring diagram, with pictures and connection examples analogous to the 1st relay board (wiring setup exsample), would make the first start easier.
* Concluding summary: the 'ESP-RFID Relay Blue Board' and the corresponding software 'esp-rfid' are well thought out and could be put into operation within a few minutes without any problems. Very good support: the vendor and team respond quickly and competently to questions.

Perfect ESP RFID Relay board

Build quality of the board is good. The acrylic case fits fine and the board is easy to connect. Most recent firmware was already loaded and the RFID reader was up and running in 15 minutes. If you want a simple manner to setup an RFID reader yourself then this board is great.

Nice HW and code

Board is fine, Seller communication is so-so.

Physically:
The board is nicely designed.
One major flaw is the quality of the green screw jumpers that are really fragile.
After a couple of screw/unscrew they already start to let go.

Documentation:
Overall it is good. Level of English is OK, I would rewrite some sentences to be clearer but that's just my opinion.
The part about the configuration pad (P1/P2/P3) is really confusing (at least, to me) and could lead to damaging the board.

Communication with the seller:
We all hate newbie questions... I get that.
Yet, I think, as a seller, you need to get over that and be patient with potential buyers.
Although the few questions I asked were answered by the seller I had a clear feeling that I was being a pest to him just by trying to enquire about the board and the shipping.
I guess dealing with all customers' questions must be tiring after a while...

Shipping:
I chose the standard shipping option. I did not expect it to take 4 and a half weeks to get here in France. I ordered from Bosnia, Slovenia, Poland, and Russia before via economic post and it took maximum of 18 days. That is not the seller's fault.
Yet, "There was an option for Standard shipping and DHL Express too but you picked up this one." and "Also, we usually mark orders as shipped although we take it to a post once or twice a week." were NOT the answers I expected from the buyer when I politely and calmly enquired about the parcel...

Sorry for writing a somewhat mixed review but I tried to be as fair and impartial as possible.

Thank you for the long review. Though it sound to me more like 4 but it got 3 : )

Anyway, i'm very sorry for the shipping, It's pretty unpredictable. Few days ago i had shipping to USA which took only 7 days. Europe is pretty quick lately. But sometimes, especially around big year sales, it takes that month.

Anyway, lesson for me. I don't think i deserved 3* in this case, but again, i did the best i could in this situation.

Great product, decent documentation

For ESP-RFID Relay Blue Board

I have tried it with generic RC522 modules and weigand modules and it works great, This is exactly the thing I have been needing for a small rfid control project.

The documentation is not great, not terrible but could use a little more love, took a bit of trial and error to get everything going but once I got it going, it was easy to use with diffirent readers

Great for a small office

I got this working with an HID miniprox with the D0, D1, 5v, and GND pins, and a 24v strike. Really good documentation and it works as advertised. Really impressed with this board and project!

Nice tool with good features

Works good with different cards. Hope there will be a template for time per user to make the system perfekt. With wiegand reader only 4 pin is used (green white red black)
I have now 3 reader online and it works.

Great Design

For ESP RFID board for wiegand readers at (5V to 12V)

One can see a lot of thought went into making this, like accommodating 12V voltage that you can tap into the Wiegand Reader instead of separate power source for ESP chip.
Highly recommended for modernizing ancient Wiegand readers to modern WiFi, MQTT enabled with lot of opportunities.

I've just received the board in the mail and haven't had a chance to get it fired up, but looking forward to doing so. The boards arrived quickly - especially considering it was an international shipment.

The seller offered ahead of time to burn on some firmware that should enable me to get up and going very quickly, so that is much appreciated! 5 stars for that. Build quality looks good, and it looks like the design of the board was done with reasonable care.

I took off one star for documentation, since none was included with the boards, although there is detail online. A packing slip with some basics, like the URL for additional references, would be ideal. By the time the boards arrived, I had to Google for the Tindie page to find the details. The URL silkscreened on the board just links to a page with some basic info, but nothing about the board itself.

I really like the idea of using common industry RFID readers as IoT devices, as it lets you integrate door control into a larger universe of logical IT endpoints. Glad to see someone pursuing this as well!
