Grbl update

For IndyShield - Arduino UNO Shield for GRBL

Due to the new update of grbl u will need to wire your shield a bit different than normal, to find the exact details you can go to nikodems youtube channel. Overall good quality not too hard to assemble (if you buy screw on terminals etc separately, they are not included as stated with the product). I had a problem where I didn't solder good enough bout you can check where the faulty solder is by using a multi meter and the github page of grbl where they explain what pin does what. My apologies if my English isn't good.

Great design, but not a kit

For IndyShield - Arduino UNO Shield for GRBL

The board design itself is pretty good, minus the swapped pins for the GRBL Z-axis limit switch and the "Spin_E" pin. Apparently there were pin changes in the latest GRBL.

Improvements would be: an actual arduino reset button on the shield, more standard I2C pinout so I can wire in a sparkfun qwiic adapter shield with pin headers, and documentation for those of us who have never used GRBL and what each pin actually does.

Despite thinking this was a kit it was not. The stock assembled photo should have that embedded in the photo that it is just for reference as I did not read the description. Also, the pin spacing for the screw terminals was not known until i opened up EagleCAD and googled part numbers.

Advice: next time get rid of just the pcb and make this a full kit. Or at least have two options. Also let us know we need the long Male pinheaders.

Otherwise, great little board, seems to be working with an arduino 328p.

Very clean PCB and easy to put together

The product was exactly what I needed, the video's on Nikodem's channel are great for piecing it together and seeing what you'll need. There are a few people unsure if it comes assembled, the picture is for assembly purposes only! It is an empty PCB, the parts are cheap and easy to assemble, no SMD parts, only THT. It has greatly reduced the cable madness and mess for the CNC I am trying to build and added a level of professionality to the project. I will probably grab some more in the future because I would like to make more and this handles a lot of the mess.

Amazing product, process, project!

For IndyShield - Arduino UNO Shield for GRBL

I ordered the Indyshield to create my very own IndyMill. After a couple of months sourcing parts, I recently assembled everything and am happy to report I have a working CNC mill, 1m x 1m!

Nikodem has made an incredible project for a complete beginner like myself to create something i am proud of, and the IndyShield made the wiring process so simple. His documentation was perfect, and was a great tool to problem solve with.

I am so excited to begin carving my first projects!

The Indy Shield Came But just the board

The indy shield came but it doesnt have the pieces on top like in the photo. Also the electrical documentation for this project does not include the spindle or the size of wires needed. I have spent a lot of time replacing plastic 3D printed parts on the indymill. Over all this project is good/okay but there is a lot that can be done to improve the instruction's clarity.

Does what its expected with a good pricepoint. No "docs"

For IndyShield - Arduino UNO Shield for GRBL

To start "IT WORKS". Thats the main selling point. As most reviewers have stated its "useful" to connect to external motor drivers for "bigger" cnc machines with still an 8bit controller like the arduino.
Maybe the only downside are shipping, comes in a simple bubble letter, and documentation.
Its supposed to route"common" grbl arduino uno pins to the different pinouts but when you receive it, you may miss some labels for example drivers... they have the grnd, dir, en, step/pul labels but it doesn't have a label to know which mottor is which... You have to look at the traces (which are black as the rest of the pcb to see for example that the pul pin next to the Z endswitch are connected to the pin 7 on the arduino that means Z axis but can't follow pin 5 or pin 6 traces clearly so the middle pull pin is X or Y? in my opinion a label would help so you dont have to go swapping motor connections.

Something similar goes to 5v and ground pins? are they simply parallel conected and therefore all to the ground and 5v pin in the arduino?
Maybe i did miss it but some pcb schematics would help a lot.

Even so i would recomend it if your building your first small/medium cnc with external open loop motor drivers like the tb6600.
I'm still building my "cnc" control box so I may find more things to improve for a future version.

Fantastic addition to my arduino uno!

For IndyShield - Arduino UNO Shield for GRBL

The pin outs are clearly labelled and spaced well enough apart to use even a cheap soldering iron.

Delivery was very quick and the quality of the board is fantastic, everything lines up exactly as expected and with some careful attention I was able to get it first time after about 30 minutes soldering.

I bought this after watching Nikodems YouTube series and being so impressed I bought the CNC instructions to follow and reference as I modified my custom CNC machine; super happy with the project overall.

Not finished product

For 3D Printed Parts For Dremel CNC

In all product when you order you expect to be nice and working. Well it was terrible not recommend for anyone

Those parts are 3D printed so they look just like anything else that is 3D printed, layers are visible and some faces may not be perfect because of the supports. Ever hole for the bearing must be sanded down with a file before putting the bearing in place. You broke some parts because you just tried to push them in place too hard.
