Edit: firstly my apologies to the creator - he responded in the end and offered me a refund. I was in process of video recording the product not working, but typically it started to work! I used the same cables when it didn't work.
Today it didn't work when I plugged it in. After trial and error I believe that it is best to plug in the power cables first to the phone, and then when the phone is charging to connect the data cable. For me when I leave the power and data cable both plugged in to the unit and then connect the phone it fails. But the power first then the data works. Hope this helps others.

Sorry I didn't see your second message. I can give you a refund but I'm happy to work with you to get it working including sending a replacement unit if needed.
