This is a fantastic DCC module to communicate with your train layout, using an Arduino. You can read and respond to the DCC system through this board and it’s isolated electrically. With this module you can use your Arduino with the NMRA DCC library to control things like switches, act as decoders, or stream all DCC communication into your Arduino. Easy to setup with NMRA sample library code. I used my first one to create a Time Saver maneuver counter that tracks your locomotive movements and reads out the score on an OLED screen live while you’re playing!

Excellent option for interfacing with Loconet

For LocoNet Interface Breakout Board with Grove Port

I needed a simple way to communicate with a Loconet network from an ESP32 and this device perfectly met my needs - I am very happy with this device. Using the sample code posted on GitHub, I was quickly able to figure out how to send and receive Loconet packets. The board is very well made and functions exactly as designed. My one small request is to add some minimal documentation about the wires in the Grove port. I had to read the circuit diagram (I am glad it is provided!) and test with a multimeter to ascertain that I had hooked up this board correctly.

Some difficulties to get PurpleHat mini working

For PurpleHat Mini Track Measuring Kit

Just finished to assemle a car with IOTT Stick and PurpleHat mini. Unfortunately it does not work. Serial Monitor shows
-> Load Trainside Sensor
-> Initialize TMAG5273
-> Ooops, no TMAG5273 detected ... Check your hardware!

Checking the hardware with I2C with "Wire.begin(0, 26, 400000);" finds i2cAddress = 53
SparkFun_TMAG5273_Arduino_Library.h can read the sensor values.

Any idea what to do?

The Green Hat (as well as other hats and the IOTT stick with with they work) are great, and great fun. Hans is a wonderful contributor to the electric model train hobby, and a great educator. I should add that it appears that he is providing these items to us a the cost of the components - with nothing added to cover his design work and software! (Documentation is in his YouTube video - which are a much watch for their own sake).

Implementation is superb, works as expected, easy to configure and use. Allows integration with other modules, LocoNet (both command station based and stand-alone, both wired and wirelessly) plus converts LocoNet to DCC commands. Did I mention that it also works with JMRI and Node-Red? And it does this all at the same time.

The IoTT stick is inexpensive and powerful with the esp32 and wifi included. But the software developed by iott is revolutionary. It is combining modern internet of thing technology like Mqtt protocol dcc, loconet and neopixel « ws2812 » addressable led for layout signaling. Imagine driving as many signals as you like with a chain of only 3 wires. The iott stick is easily programmable using a simple comprehensive web page accessible with any browser. This is a great product and with a lot of hardware and software improvements planned for the future. I highly recommend taking a look à this product and all related video on YouTube.

Great neopixel driver for the model rr modelers

For BlueHat Signaling and Lighting for the IoTT Stick

I am currently experimenting with this neopixel led driver to create my own signaling system on my layout and control panel. Having all the signals target addressable and daisy chain them with only 3 wires is a revolutionary idea for the model railroad community. It is using easy available inexpensive components. I am hoping to be able to use this system to drive all the leds of my layout eventually. So far I have try it with a neopixel led band and individual 5mm addressable led. I will order shortly miniature board to try to drive regular led as well. So far It is working as advertised on his YouTube channel. I highly encourage you to take a close look at this product for your model railroad. And the yellow hat device.

The dcc breakout board is working great

For DCC Interface Breakout Board with Grove Port

The board is communicating flawlessly with my NCE dcc system. The only draw back i can find is software related. when we use it We do not have Mqtt communication like the loconet board. I would love that it can do a relay mode with Mqtt. I don’t think the full gateway is necessary. Let see how the software improve over times.

That actually is a great idea. There is no reason why I could not feed the DCC information to MQTT. I will put it on the to do list for an upcoming version of the stick software.
