I have been learning IoT as a hobby for the last 2 years and when I decided to build a weather station I thought how hard can it be right?. :)
After much Arduino and ESP8266 learning I found the requirement for power monitoring is an area that less documented. When I learned of the INA3221 it jumped out as the perfect solution to monitor Battery, Load and Solar all in one I2C chip. But the normal one shares a common ground and is not intended for this.
The unit you see here is however designed differently and with no common ground it is PERFECT for this. I have had instant success with monitoring all 3 power feeds and can now see exactly how well the solar panel is charging the battery and how well the deep sleep on the NodeMCU is working.
I highly recommend this board if you are intending any form of battery charging/usage measurements. The 010 version (this one) does indeed use less power and still reads very accurately.
I am in Australia and shipping to here was not that long. Packaging showed the care and devotion of a serious enthusiast with static bags and padded satchel.
Was impressed enough to come back and write this review as I order a hand full more of these for future projects.
