To put it simply. It works, simple to setup. Any standard 9v power supply for guitar pedals will work. It also looks great!

Well made and very hackable

Even though I've built similar controllers myself, I got this for playing around with and hacking. Having the majority of the parts already on hand, I got the Hack-it-yourself model and went to work on it. Documentation is really good, and I had no problem figuring out how to leave out the voltage regulator parts to run it from a USB jack directly instead. I also fitted the PCB from one of those £3 MIDI interface cables off eBay and a micro USB jack onto the back of the Le Strum. So now I've got MIDI and power over USB instead of the 5-pin DIN MIDI and battery. For keys I chose a longer stem kind of tact switch combined with switch caps in white and black. Also put oak wood legs/sides on it and made a matching wooden stylus.

And of course it is very playable. Really great little thing!

Easy to assemble and good clear documentation. I connected up to my Roland SC-88 and was easily able to generate plenty of cool and rich chord combinations.

Awesome!

I was looking for a MIDI - CV device for my modular setup and stumbled upon this awesome thing!
Extremely full featured and about half the price of similar functionality devices.
A breeze to setup the confguration to exactly how you like it, if you've ever sent sysex to anything, you won't really need to read the manual.
All in all, proper good.

Awesome MIDI CV IO Board for Hardware Sequencers.

I was looking for more cv outputs for my Squarp Pyramid sequencer and stumbled across this from my favourite Arpie 4 Designer.

The flexibility of this unit is seriously excellent. It seems confusing at first as you read the manual but as you think about it and what you want to achieve it becomes a lot easier plus patching with a new sysex makes experimentation easier; though I wish someone would make a tiny hardware sysex loader, using a microsd card... But I digress.

The build quality is excellent and it's diminutive size means it can fit on a crowded studio table.

I especially love the ability to create trigs from cc# crossing thresholds. It's seriously awesome. I'd love for that feature to be extended with creating trigs etc when the cc was in a user defined range.

To sum up Hotchkiss has done it again the cv.ocd is a well engineered triumph. I'm glad I found it, you will be too if you have any modular like equipment in a traditional midi studio environment. And a bargain to boot. Love it.

This little box is AWESOME!

I love that you can reconfigure this however you want. I have it setup right now to take in 3 midi channels and output 3 cvs/triggers/gates. This lets me controll it with my Launchpad through renoise/stepp0r.

Excellent tiny and versatile + amazing customer service

Sixty four pixels make great stuff and provide impeccable customer service. This little box is similar to the Roland MPU-101 but without the disadvantages of no clock, being quite large and costing a lot and with the very significant advantage of programable outputs.

Successfully converted midi input, run velocity to filter via CV (its great you can set voltage on output - really useful for controlling filter range) and used mod wheel to control portamento.
And the size is a real bonus; my “studio” space is tiny.

The Arpie is fantastic.

For me, it has opened up a whole new realm of possibilities which now seem limitless with my current hardware set up and opened up my options more for ideas with what I do and what I want to do! It's faultless. Really easy to use. The build and design of the Arpie feels hardy, solid and made to last. I can tell I will be using this for years to come. I love the fact that there are so many options and settings in such a small yet user friendly box. It is always exciting using it as I am constantly learning how the functions work and how the Arpie can flow so easily to fit within different ideas. I feel I get something new out of it every time I've used it as well as I dig how easy it is to backtrack to something else that I'm working on.

I can't recommend this stand alone arpeggiator enough, let alone thank Jason enough for his help with the build and the time he spent walking me through it. You're a legend!!!! Thanks again mate, I'll definitely be ordering from you again in the future!

Fun build, lovely instrument

What a joy this thing is... Build was straightforward thanks to the detailed instructions. Nice to see a few extra parts just in case. Black PCB is splendid, layout clean and elegant.
Then you plug it in and marvel at the potential of the little instrument. It doesn't skip a beat and offers tons of performance options.
Absolutely recommended if you're looking for yet another way to play your synths.

Easier to build, most full-featured arp anywhere

Fantastic kit with easy to follow, step-by-step instructions - super helpful. The best part is that I couldn't find a more full featured arpegiator anywhere (kit or non-kit). My only concern was that it would be too small and fidley but in the studio it works great - probably wouldn't use it live though.

For Orange Squeeze MIDI Merge

Items were shipped without delay and they arrived safely thanks to the sturdy packaging.

I tested the midi merger right away with a timeFrog, Akai MPD232 and Roland FC300. No choking, no latency I could hear, -> very satisfied. The witness leds are useful and the layout practical. Reset (panic) button is a nice touch.

Documentation is adequate as there's not much to explain about a midi merger. Possibly missing is a note about getting power from the midi bus instead of the external power supply. I guess that given the 9v mini requirement it can't be done, not a big deal in any case.

Will add a leStrum to the chain as soon as it's built. Only regret is I didn't order a Banana Split right away ;-).

amazing!

I'm in love with this little box. i sequence my modular from Logic and this allows me to have plenty of melodic / harmonic material with the four CV / Gate outs and 8 percussive elements sequenced at the same time. it's a brilliant well built solution, i might actually try to get a second one at some point. bravo!

The ARPIE is amazing and well worth the investment

The ARPIE MIDI Arpeggiator is an easy-to-build kit which yields a powerful addition to your MIDI setup. Jason Hotchkiss' build instructions are easy to follow and entertaining to read, although you need to be prepared to spend a few hours soldering all the parts together. There are several diagnostic LEDs which let you know how the build is progressing and whether you need to check your work.

Once you have the device assembled, the ARPIE lives up to its name as an excellent MIDI arpeggiator; the controls take a little getting-used-to, but if you read Jason's user manual you should get up to speed in little time. About the only request that I would have is that I wish there was an LED display panel for the BPM - that would be great when syncing multiple MIDI devices together.

I highly recommend this project for MIDI enthusiasts who are also passionate about making things, and I also highly recommend getting the case for the ARPIE which Jason also sells in his store. (Although now that I have built one ARPIE, I'm considering buying another and building it into a rackmount case so it can live amongst my other MIDI studio gear.)

ARPIE - Realy nice piece of equipment

The instruction on the web site are excellent. For some reason, my wife decided to build the ARPIE herself, and while she has built electronic projects before, that was 30 years ago, and she has only watched me since. She followed the instructions carefully, and ARPIE worked first time. We are both now looking forward to learning how to use it, exploring its rich features and having fun with it.

Does what I bought it for

Works exactly as advertised, no problems so far. The built in clock is nice and is the reason I bought this, rather than the Banana Split from same seller. Easy to use and set up. I needed something to sync a few synths to a MIDI clock and play multiple of them at the same time, so it does pretty much everything I needed in a small cheap package.

I'm a little worried about the lack of casing (might want to use it live at some point, as it is it's more of a plug-in-and-leave-in-its-place kind of thing) and would have been glad to pay extra for a small BPM display. It's cheap though, so I can probably buy/build a BPM display and some kind of casing and still pay less in total than a dedicated MIDI clock would have cost me, let alone a clock + MIDI splitter.

All in all, pretty great.

Works perfectly

Got my banana split on time after prompt shipmnent. It works nicely, and the good thing is that it is smaller than what I thought! not much bigger than a USB hub. The only tidbit is that it need its own power supply. But does the job it has to do nicely.

Great gadget!

This is just what I needed! Now I can connect a bunch of synths with no need for complicated and unreliable midi thru chains. Works perfectly in this capacity. Hasn't missed a beat so far.

I've not tried using the kit as a metronome yet, but I expect it'll work as flawlessly as the other mode.

It works!

Very cool. Works like you'd want it to. Great price point relative to the cost of other midi clocks starting at $500+.
Bottom line. It works....and has lots to cool flashing lights.
Would have awarded 5 stars but for lack of numerical bpm readout.

It arrived, and it works

Great device! But mine has arrived without one of the leds. However it works fine.
The missing led makes a bit dificult configure that option because the leds in the options menu are the only visual feedback midi hub provides.
Seller is sending me some extra leds 4 free, he also ofered me repair it himself. So I would recomend this seller anyone. Great customer support!
