Gerat SIO/2 module for a decent price!

For #34b Z80 SIO/2 dual serial module

Like all of RottenSnow's modules, this one is of very good quality (PCB and parts) and building the module is very easy and done rather quick. Each port (A/B) of the SIO/2 chip can be clocked at an individual baud rate (this requires an additional dual-clock -or similar- module) which is great for serial communication setups (e.g. calling BBS systems via modem or PC host-bridge). The assembly instructions are very good and easy to understand.

Great Module, but even Better Service

For #61 The Missing Module (serial & storage)

Wow, what a story... First up, I'm in Australia - on the other side of the planet from where these are shipped. I ordered various parts to make an RC2014 system but one of the key parts of it is this module that gives you Serial Communications as well as mass storage. And just to get this out of the way: The module worked first pop and works great. Really good documentation, as well.

Well a month after the order and it not turning up, I contacted Karl and he was very quick to respond and sent out another module. But that didn't arrive after another month, either. Out of total desperation, Karl sent a THIRD package via express postage. And of course, as Murphey's Law dictates, both the first and third item turned up ON THE SAME DAY! I'm sure the second will show up right about Christmas. Thanks, Covid! Luckily I have friends that also want to make an RC2014 system so I paid Karl to sell them to me and pass them on. All ends up well.

In short, this module is TRULY the Missing Module that every RC2014 system needs... Let's just hope it doesn't go missing for too long. Have patience, people; it's worth it. :)

Great module, fair price!

For #42 Memory Module 64K (repair or upgrade kit)

This board was easy to assemble and came with very good and detailed assembly instructions. I bought it as an upgrade for my RC2014 Classic II so I could run CP/M. This works very well, as the included ROM contains a CP/M bootloader. For its price this module is a good alternative to other memory expansions available.

Good kit, high quality and surprisingly fast.

For #70 Z180 Micro (CPU + RAM + ROM)

The kit is better than I expected, It boots extemely quickly, it is easy to use when you get a hang of CP/M and Z-System.

I bought it with the 5 slot backplane and the Compact Flash module, and that also works perfectly fine.

I'd definetly buy from this seller again.

Easier Access CF Adapter

For Storage Module using Compact Flash

This CF Storage Module puts the CF Adapter at the top of the card. This improves card insertion/swap-out massively, given the quite meagre spacing of the RC2014 Pro backplane. Board quality is excellent and the supplied components and CF card where securely packaged. Build was very straightforward. The CF card supplied (at least in my case) had some really useful software packages included, as well as some quite playable (love the retro nature of these). The product is evolving; the particular module I got was variant 10f - I mention this as I couldn't find build documentation for this particular variant. However, there is more than enough of a hint about the product provided in the previous iterations build document - It's very well-written and will easily get you to the finish line.

Minimal components, but offers everything you need to build

For #70 Z180 Micro (CPU + RAM + ROM)

Build time is only a couple of hours with no pitfalls I could detect. Just the backplane and processor board is enough to bring up a system in one of the operating environments hosted by ROMWBW. Add a storage card for the fully operational system.

The 5-slot backplane is fine for people who want to expand to a custom system, otherwise I would recommend a 3-slot backplane from Stephen Cousins for the smallest footprint.

Documentation covers all you need. Dealing with Karl is a pleasure, he is responsive and helpful. Posten Norge provide very efficient shipping.

Very good quality kit.

For Full Z180 kit ("Black Adder")

The black PBCs are very good quality and look cool! All the required components supplied and documentation fairly clear. This is probably not a beginners kit, but it's not difficult if you are confident soldering and can read the schematic. Recommended.
