Great electronic, but fails on homepage, so make your own.
For GreenThumb - WiFi Soil moisture sensor (Gen 2.0)
A somewhat cheap flower sensor compared to other brands, like Flower Power, Koubachi and PlantLink.
This one has WIFI connection was makes it better than FlowerPower, that only has Bluetooth, so you do not have to stand right next to you dead plant to get information about it being dead.
Sensors for water, temperature, nutritions and sunlight, like the Flower Power and Koubachi, but in the current way of usage the sunlight sensor is not really working, because its located at the board, which in normal usage will be protected by the plastic housing thereby leaving the light sensor in total darkness at all times.
The sensor needs to be moved from the board and integrated into the plastic housing in order to work.
Battery consumption is quite high with the standard setup of 300 seconds between updates. Increase the update value alot and it works great. A flower do rarely die within 6-8 hours. :)
The homepage has no plant database, no triggers or alarms. This product is only really worth it if you make you own server with these features. A forum on the product homepage for exchanging ideas and code would be a great addition.
The documentation lacks alot. A forum could help here also and a FAQ-section would be nice.
I had a lot of problems getting the product to contact my own server and had to do a lot of packet grabbing to figure it out. Turns out that http:// in the address was being the cause, but it was there in the original setup.
Once you have managed to make your own homepage, then its great.
My first try with a plant sensor was a Flower Power and I could use this one to calibrate the sensors on Greenthumb for my specific plants.
